Close-up view of the head and upper part of the neck of a Grey Heron, facing to the right of the picture. The top of the head is grey above the eye turning to black further back; the rest of the face is whitish and the neck, also whitish to begin with, turns greyer further down (the front of the neck, with is white with black streaks, is not visible in this view). They eye is yellow with a black pupil and rim, the long, pointed beak is dark grey above and a yellowish orange colour below.
The head, neck and a little of the body of the same Grey Heron. The front of the bird is facing towards us in this view, so the white neck with its black streaks is visible. The head is facing to the left of the picture, with a thin, straggly plume or aigret extending backwards from the top of the head.
A Grey Heron standing in waterside vegetation which includes the leaves of reeds and grasses, and some Buttercup flowers. We can see pretty much all of the bird bar the lower legs. The head and neck are as described in the alt text for the first image in this series but in addition we can see the feathers of the lower part of the neck (which is held almost in an 'S' shape) hanging down below it. The body is mostly grey, the legs dark.
