I took some young family members for their first river hike today. Along the way, we spotted this massive snapping turtle sunning itself on a log. We all stopped and stood in awe of its size. The entire hike was a lot of fun, filled with discovery, but I’m afraid that this hike set the “bar” quite high— the children might expect to see this turtle every time now! 😀🐢 #hiking #nature #wildlife

Part of a sequence. A Great Blue Heron eating a dead grackle he found. It wasn't easy. Kept falling and re-trying. Took him almost 20 minutes to get it down.

This flicker gave us beautiful views of her underfeathers in an extended preening session yesterday. I hope she lives forever. #FlickerFriday #FlyDay 📷🌿🪶
