While we were photographing bears getting some fatty salmon, I looked behind me for no particular reason and saw a pod of four orcas travelling very close to shore. Seals that observed us all morning were gone, hiding from the orcas.

I often mention to the guests on my photo tours and photo workshops to look behind them. You never know what you'll find.

Sometimes you've just gotta be a bit of a tourist.

So on one day we visited New Quay, taking in the sights and sounds, and enjoyed a beautiful boat trip around New Quay Head, where we saw DOLPHINS. 😍

Discover the wonders of Dangar Island… https://ausgeo.co/dangarisland

Located in the Hawkesbury River in Visit NSW, Dangar Island is home to a population of about 300 people, and this little island is known for its supportive, connected community.

With one ferry, one cafe/general store and one bowling club, there’s no hiding from your fellow islanders – but the residents share a special kinship that can only be forged through years of residing in close quarters.

Have you visited Dangar Island? We would love to hear about your experience in the comment section!

Also saw a red fox today on the trail ahead of me. So that's always cool.

Boy chases girl, not on the plains of the Kalahari, but on a dry lake playa in northern Washoe County, Nevada. Antilocapra americana (pronghorn) are not related to antelope but fill a similar ecological niche in North America due to parallel evolution. Pronghorns are related to giraffe and okapi, however. Pronghorns are the fastest North American land animal able to run at speeds up to 89kph (55mph).

SOLAR FARMS HAVE A SUPERPOWER BEYOND CLEAN ENERGY

The sites fight climate change and can help with another global crisis: the collapse of nature. But so far, efforts to nurture wildlife habitat have been spotty

The abundance of native honeybees grew twentyfold in just five years on solar farms at test sites in Ramsey, Minnesota

Learn more about manta rays… https://ausgeo.co/mantarays

Have you encountered a manta ray in the wild before? One woman did – and it led to her changing careers and launching a project to protect these ‘charismatic’ underwater flying carpets.

For more than a decade now, Australian marine scientist Dr Asia Haines has been an integral part of University of the Sunshine Coast’s Project Manta – a team investigating the population, biology and ecology of the enigmatic reef manta ray (Mobula alfredi) in eastern Australian waters.

I’m going in!

I have Northern Watersnake friends that live on, and in, my stacked firewood. We’re neighbors you could say.

But now we have a contractor who is building a new awning and I need to temporarily relocate some of the wood. I’m going to have to squeeze my way in there.

Of course the snakes will think this is hilarious.

Wish me luck. 😆

This is the first time I managed to snap a pic of a fox in the wild. That was my lucky day. Especially since I've been out, testing the #omsystem150600.

But I also made two mistakes here. f/6.3 made the image a bit too soft. The lens is great, but at 600mm and f/6.3 it's really a bit too soft for tighter crops. Then the shadow on the fox's face is nearly black around the eye. I should have switched the exposure metering to center-weighted averaging, instead of having it on ESP metering. Well, that's how you learn. 🤷‍♂️

A lonely looking overwintering kuaka (bar-tailed godwit) this morning. Not much longer to wait for more company. The flock will be heading back to Aotearoa from Alaska sometime in the next week or two.

The cabbage white butterfly is a common sight in North Carolina gardens and is notoriously difficult to photograph. It's a delightful surprise that I managed to capture one in focus

Did you know that squid have teeth in their suckers?

Scientists don’t really understand how these teeth are made (since they are made of structural proteins, not mineralized hard tissues, like other creatures’ teeth).

Modern rodenticides can kill rats with a single dose – but they readily pass up the food chain to larger carnivores, like this bobcat.

They are widely used and largely unregulated.

I agree that Namibia is among those countries least at fault for the condition the world currently is in. However I don't think killing #wildlife will solve any problems, only worsen them.

This is not criticism of the people, but their government.

They are obviously not doing well if they have to kill wildlife to "feed" their people.

As if killing some of the last #wildlife will solve their problems... 😢

Amazing "national parks"...

"Reducing wildlife numbers, according to the Ministry, will help reduce the negative impact of drought on the conservation of wild animals in the nation by taming grazing pressure and water availability." 🤯

Are they offering any option to prevent this? They could do fundraiser-hostage-livestreams, people would pay

I do.

Thought I'd test my reflexes today, Barn Swallows were flying low over the saltmarsh on the Duddon Estuary. Pleased to get this juvenile feeding up before the long journey South.
