This sketch is heavily influenced by an illustration found in 'The Smart Set' magazine, originating around 1923 or perhaps earlier (my memory's a bit fuzzy!). It not only nods to the artistic style and themes of that era but also incorporates a touch of my usual style and usual goofy execution, adding a playful twist to the homage. 😄

I gave this month's Inkscape challenge a go "Draw a simple object in detail".

I rarely do realistic work - as it feels more like copying than creating - but this was fun for a change.
As usual, I used clip groups [to place all the blurred shading objects inside the 4 main parts], gradients, lots of blurs, taper strokes, and changed a few blend modes to 'Overlay' or 'Multiply' to get nicer [warmer] colour mixes.

Founded today, 1994: Mosaic Communications Corporation. You're probably more familiar with their second name, though: Netscape. My first glimpse of the web in 1995.

I was fascinated by that animated N icon. It got to me the way work by Dali and Magritte did: eerie, surreal, kind of haunting, with the glowing horizon and flying meteors during pageload. (90s internet meant seeing those meteors a *lot*).

Here's to yesterday's UI design, and yesterday's web.
