Good news everyone! We hit our first milestone: maintenance is 100% funded. Thank you all ❤️

Next up: unlock the stretch goal to co‑design federated groups: community‑owned spaces to organise across the fediverse, with no server or platform lock‑in.

Read about why this matters and how it can empower communities: bonfirenetworks.org/posts/why-…

Anyone by change archiving Fediverse posts and able to help me find a handfull of pictures using their cache URLs from about 7-8 months ago?

(You can contact me via DM and I assure you that I won't tell anyone that you did archive these things in case you're fearing that I would.)

En MathML-blokk

WordPress 6.9 har fått en byggestein/blokk for MathML:

x1,2=−b±b2−4⋅a⋅c2⋅ax_{1,2} = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 – 4 \cdot a \cdot c}}{2 \cdot a}

Hvordan fungerer det i RSS og ActivityPub?

"sharedInbox endpoints SHOULD also be publicly readable OrderedCollection objects containing objects addressed to the Public special collection..."
w3.org/TR/activitypub/#sharedI…

I disagree with this SHOULD, would downgrade to a MAY.

Minor, mainly because consider a small instance, whose users do not show their Following collections, this could basically leak who the follows are.

That said, I haven't found any Software that does have a publicly readable sharedInbox!

Australian ban on under16s social media

!Fediverse - Ive been spending alot of time driving lately and I heard again about the impending ban on social media for under 16yo children in Australia.

It made me wonder whether there is as opportunity/ use case for #ActivityPub based solutions that allow schools / community groups to offer accounts to their parents - that could be then used by those parents to offer moderated/ controlled child accounts (for their children).

Parent accounts would have vistability and potentially control over who child accounts can follow/conmunicate with. Schools could use it for communication with parents and/or pupils.

Everything has gone to...

In January 2023, @pluralistic used the term "enshittification" on his blog, pluralistic.net, to describe the deterioration process of the TikTok network.

Enshittification consists of four stages:

1. Platforms are good for users

2. Platforms abuse users to be good for business customers

3. Platforms abuse business customers to keep all the profit

4. Platforms die

if you have issues with the #ActivityPub plugin for #WordPress or curious about how it works. I am happy to help :)

Plot twist: TikTok's "secret sauce" is recommendation ML + video encoding (likely ffmpeg like the rest of us).

They built their empire on open source foundations.

We're doing the same with @loops but keeping it open, federated, and yours.

The magic was open source all along.

Who's really disrupting who?

@elduvelle @Moss

It's possible to split the middle, though. For instance, I am running a #WordPress site - and turned it into a #Fediverse server with the #ActivityPub plugin.

Now people can search for individual blog posts on their Fediverse instance, and read it and comment on it as if it was a Mastodon post (for instance).

There are also quite a few other Fediverse-based blogging solutions that allow people to blog right into other people's feeds.

I've been here for years and I still haven't cracked the Fediverse code.

On Twitter I could post "eating cereal" and get 50 bot likes + one crypto bro following me.
Here I can post a 30-second video of my cat trying to fight the vacuum cleaner with the caption "me when someone's instance federates with threads dot net" and… absolute silence. Not even a sympathy boost from the admin who literally pays for the server I'm yelling on 😭

So please, someone finally explain the secret sauce:
Do I need to switch my cat to a vegan gluten-free diet? Do I have to mention systemd negatively in every post? Or is the real trick sacrificing a Raspberry Pi to the old gods of ActivityPub??

I encourage everybody to adopt the following pattern, when talking about ActivtyPub:

If it's important what you mean by ActivityPub, use more clarifications, e.g. Mastodon-ActivityPub.
