Image of an area of the Sun close to the solar limb (the edge). Two sunspots groups can be seen, the one below is larger than the other. As the Sun rotates, these sunspots will be out of view in a few days.

Visual Description from source in toot: This release features a composite image of a globular cluster, a sphere-shaped collection of stars bound together by gravity. In this conglomeration are eleven spider pulsars, which obliterate their companion stars with strong winds of particles. In the main image of this release, scores of tiny white stars dot the blackness of space, many appearing to glow with a white or hot pink aura. Like other globular clusters, this conglomeration, named Omega Centauri, is more densely packed near the center.
From source in toot: A close up image of the densely-packed center of Omega Centaurus reveals even more stars, blanketing the frame from corner to corner. This close up is presented fully labeled, with a white ring encircling nine of the eleven marked spider pulsars. Each spider pulsar is the spinning core of a collapsed massive star. As they spin, the spider pulsars emit beams of radiation, like light from a lighthouse. The pulsars also produce winds of particles that methodically strip away their companion stars, layer by layer

The Da Vinci Glow

A 26 hour old Moon poses behind the craggy outline of the Italian #Dolomites in this twilight mountain and skyscape. The one second long exposure was captured near moonset on March 30. And while only a a sliver of its sunlit surface is visible, most of the Moon's disk can be seen by earthshine as light reflected from a bright planet Earth illuminates the lunar nearside.

Also known as the Moon's ashen glow, a description of earthshine in terms of sunlight reflected by Earth's oceans illuminating the Moon's dark surface was written over 500 years ago by Leonardo da Vinci. Of course earthshine is just the most familiar example of planetshine, the faint illumination of the dark portion of a moon by light reflected from its planet.

My best shot of Saturday's #eclipse. From here onwards the clouds rolled in even more and took away my view completely.

This was at 10:15am as the obscuration was beginning, so the moon is only a small curve on the right.

A photo of the sun in a strong orange colour. The face of the sun is almost completely covered in cloud, but a small curved bite has been taken from the right side. This is the encroachment of the moon at the start of the eclipse.

The Webb image shows intricate details of the heated gas and dust as the protostellar jet slams into the material. Webb also resolves the “fuzzy” object located at the tip of the outflow into a distant spiral galaxy. The Spitzer image shows 3.6-micron light in blue, the 4.5-micron in green, and the 8.0-micron in red (IRAC1, IRAC2, IRAC4). In the Webb image, blue represents light at 2.0-microns (F200W), cyan represents light at 3.3-microns (F335M), green is 4.4-microns (F444W), orange is 4.7-microns (F470N), and red is 7.7-microns (F770W). The intricate features of the outflow, represented in reddish-orange color, provide detailed clues about how young stars form and how their jet activity affects the environment around them. Like the wake of a speeding boat, the bow shocks in this image have an arc-like appearance as the fast-moving jet from the young star slams into the surrounding dust and gas. A chance alignment in this direction of the sky provides a beautiful juxtaposition of this nearby Herbig-Haro object with a more distant spiral galaxy in the background. Herbig-Haro 49/50 gives researchers insights into the early phases of the formation of low-mass stars similar to our own Sun. In this Webb image, blue represents light at 2.0-microns (F200W), cyan represents light at 3.3-microns (F335M), green is 4.4-microns (F444W), orange is 4.7-microns (F470N), and red is 7.7-microns (F770W).
