If you think #vibecoding is fine, let me ask you a single question: would you use a medical device whose software was vibecoded? And by "medical device" I mean something where a bug could literally kill you.

If you answered "oh, gawd, no!" then consider that anytime you use an #LLM to contribute to or develop an #OpenSource project, there's a chance that this code will end up powering such a device. And even if it doesn't, you're setting a trend, and it will be even more likely that the software used by these devices will be vibecoded.

I have type 1 #diabetes. I also lead a physically active life. This is both a blessing and a curse. My doctors keep suggesting Constant Glucose Monitoring systems and insulin pumps to me. And I do realize that such hardware would likely improve my blood glucose, and definitely make my life much easier (especially with a closed loop system).

So why do my fingertips look like crap, and I keep using a glucometer and insulin pens? Because I don't want to risk my life to an unnecessarily complex technology.

Admittedly, I occasionally get things wrong and suffer consequences. Or I suspect I got them wrong and worry. Or meet an unexpected situation and need to figure out a way out. Or even accept having elevated glucose levels (as in nearing 200 mg/dl) because there's just no way to safely fit insulin doses on a particular day.

But still, I prefer having control and risking my own mistakes to a device that could suddenly start pumping insulin because of a bug. And that was even before the story of the application that stripped the decimal point and gave people ten times the dose. Or the one about CGMs giving wrong high glucose alerts. Or the whole vibecoding fancy.

Back then, I could have considered such a device. Now, I'm more worried than ever. And honestly, I'm hoping that relatively simple glucometers will remain available. To think that my worst fear used to be of a mechanical fault…

The Beaverton has found the silver lining:

PALO ALTO, CA – With Silicon Valley boasting that artificial intelligence could replace millions of jobs around the world, currently laid-off workers have reported having more free time to form angry mobs dedicated to storming and torching the homes of the tech billionaires responsible.

The mobs, made up primarily of formerly-employed white collar workers whose livelihoods were erased by poorly-performing AI programs, are using their newfound leisure time to band together with fellow pitchfork-wielding civilians and demand the heads of various pampered CEOs.

“Getting laid off without warning from my copywriting job has done wonders for my work-life-bloodthirsty mob balance,” reports Taylor Grayden, 35, of Vancouver. “Back when I had a job I never would’ve had the free time to organize an unruly rabble and march towards the beach house of (Open AI CEO) Sam Altman. But now I’m getting so much more violent retribution accomplished in a day.”

Members of the quickly-spreading angry hordes include recently-downsized SEO analysts, CPAs, web developers, and programmers.

“I felt so lost after I was let go at my analytics firm so my whole department could be replaced by Claude AI,” explains Sarah Brightwell, 42, of Kingston, ON. “But then I started learning how to use AI as a tool – specifically for planning a multi-week siege of the sprawling compound of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.”

“Granted, the attack plans Claude spit out were full of hallucinations, but it got the ball rolling for me to organize my fellow unemployed humans and get marching,” Brightwell adds, tightening the bolts on her homemade trebuchet. “After all, AI can’t throw a molotov cocktail!”

Silicon Valley CEOs like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Peter Thiel have reported mild growth in AI-fuelled productivity, as well as massive leaps in jobless bourgeoisie rabble surrounding their estates and pounding at the gates with guillotines.

“Sure, we probably could have avoided this if we’d accompanied our artificial intelligence products with any kind of workable universal basic income system,” explains Altman from one of his currently-burning $12.8 million San Francisco homes. “But I’d still rather die with all this money.”

In a related story, employment numbers across Canada and the United States continue to plummet, with the notable exception of the “flaming catapult manufacturer” sector, which grew by 800% last quarter.

Reading through Anthropic's official repo for giving agents various "super skills"[1]... There's an "algorithmic art" skill and the instructions are explicitly encouraging pure deception as one of the key "critical guidelines":

"The philosophy MUST stress multiple times that the final algorithm should appear as though it took countless hours to develop, was refined with care, and comes from someone at the absolute top of their field. This framing is essential - repeat phrases like "meticulously crafted algorithm," "the product of deep computational expertise," "painstaking optimization," "master-level implementation.""

Thanks to a work-in-progress Homebrew cask by Andi Péter (codeberg.org/GramEditor/gram/i…), I was just able to quickly install and play with the new Gram code editor (codeberg.org/GramEditor/gram#g…) – a fork of Zed with all the bullshit (AI, telemetry, etc.) removed that looks like it could be great editor to recommend both for people just learning to code (as I was, recently, to recommend for people learning Kitten¹) as well as seasoned programmers who don’t want to work in terminal.

And, as a bonus, it actually has a Helix Editor mode so if that’s your daily driver (raises hand), you can just use it like Helix (i.e., Helix Editor in a graphical shell).
