Create a Blog with Eleventy and Storyblok
This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to create a blog site using Eleventy and Storyblok.estelafranco.com
They essentially skip the Server-Side React hydration which means you end up with a simpler HTML+CSS page, no JS.
Page sizes drop significantly:
* Transferred: ~600KB -> 30KB
* Total: 1.65MB -> 135KB
Just append `.lite` on a URL e.g. https://www.bbc.com/mundo/articles/crgyyvdz1dro.lite
There's no on/off UX at the moment but they're working on that too.

#tinySVGtip How do you create an *inset* shadow on an `img` element?
You might think inset `box-shadow`, but it doesn't work! Really, there are tons of articles & questions on StackOveflow on this very topic.
SVG filters to the rescue for an elegant solution!
✨ offset & blur image
✨ subtract it out of original image alpha ⇒ get black inner shadow
✨ paint it 🍊
✨ place it on top of img

Today I optimized https://linuxdaw.org with a new image scheme.
Up until now I've downloaded an original image from the deveoper and made 2 smaller versions of it in the same format.
Now I make 3 copies and instead use the webp format (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebP) which is much smaller and optimized.
The results in a faster and better site!

Service overview and uptime page with Kuma Uptime
With a bunch of free web services a status or uptime page is also a must. Luckily there are beautiful self-hosted solutions like Cachet and Kuma Uptime.

Although not directly #WordPress related if you work on any CMS, I would give @chriscoyier and @davatron5000 podcast episode on a "fantasy #blogging / #CMS setup" a listen. 👂🏻
Has guest @mathowie on.
Accepting almost* everything in #webdev eventually falls but agreeing w/ @chriscoyier here.
"Technologies do tend to come and go.... But when tech gets big enough, it tends to not go. #WordPress is huge, and it’s been huge every second of my entire web dev career. To me it echos social media in a way. In the middle days of Facebook, it’s demise was often predicted.... But it didn’t, and it’s demise is no longer predicted. It’s too big to fail. So too is #React."

This piece from @heydon details his system for using the new features of #CSS to test HTML for proper semantics and structure. Just incredible what’s going on in some of these selectors.

The International Symposium on Making Websites Real Good
The team behind 11ty, the static site generator, are putting together a free online conference on May 9: The International Symposium on Making Websites Real Good I’m honored to be speaking at this event about HTML Web Components.gomakethings.com
Got bored with my old website design so I decided to make a new one. Tried to make it less boring, but I'm no designer, so I'm not sure if I succeeded.
I also wrote a short blog post about the update: https://jonas.brusman.se/farewell-inter-hello-overpass-and-tropi-land/
