Yesterday's sun! I had seen some images of this massive band of sunspots, so I decided to take some images even though conditions weren't ideal. Hoping for some more aurora magic!

Last night’s full moon, the last supermoon of the year, was what the Mohawk Nation calls the Cold Moon — also known by other names such as the Snow Moon (Cherokee), the Frost Exploding Trees Moon (Cree), the Moon When the Deer Shed Their Antlers (Lakota), the Long Night Moon (Mohican), and the Moon When the Wolves Run Together (Cheyenne). Beautiful by any name.

A shot of the milky way I took a few years ago on the Swabian Alb. The conditions were perfect that night.

Saying goodbye to comet A6 Lemmon. It's getting very low, and clouds are increasing in southern New Mexico.
It was a remarkable run of many clear nights.
This is a single exposure on a fixed tripod.
There's a blurred silhouette of a power line, and satellite trails in this image. They belong in the frame because this is the world we have created. It's getting increasingly difficult to escape to pristine nature.
Perhaps the phrase 'pristine nature' is now an oxymoron?
When is the first No Kings General Strike?
We all need to help with community building and boosting civic engagement. These activities have atrophied for decades, and it shows.

A dance of two pairs!
While the two Magellanic Clouds shine upon the Atacama Desert in #Chile, two Auxiliary Telescopes of ESO’s Very Large Telescope Interferometer point up to the sky.
Just like our cosmic neighbours move around the Milky Way, the Auxiliary Telescopes can be moved along rails and arranged in different configurations when observing the sky.

For #CarlSaganDay I’m sharing my latest processing attempt for my #astrophotography class — the Andromeda Galaxy (with at least two of its satellite galaxies). The software learning curve is still kicking my butt, but as always I’m awed to be able to work with these images. Details in the alt text.
