Northern Nevada rock imagery.
(Note: The preferred term, at least by the five tribe Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition in the Four Corners region, is now "rock imagery." We no longer call it "art" as we have no idea what was in the mind of the person when they drew the pictograph or petroglyph images. Please be respectful when visiting cultural sites, prehistoric or modern.)

The Gerlach, Nevada, "Red Neck Weather Station." There use to be one on the edge of town, long before the Burners showed up. This much newer weather station is on the unofficially named "Guru Road" along the edge of the Black Rock playa.

The Grand Canyon & the Kolb Studio, which was begun in 1906 by photographers Emery & Ellsworth Kolb. The Kolb's were hardcore canyoneers. They carried their early--big & heavy--photographic equipment all over the Canyon. Sadly, the building is now a gift shop & the Kolb brother's history has been relegated to a tiny closet featuring a couple of their photos & a short video about their lives.

A Yucca brevifolia (Joshua tree) near the Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness south of Las Vegas. Here's a funny story: When German immigrants settled in the Mojave desert near the San Andreas fault at the base of the Sierra Pelona Mountains they called their settlement "Palmdale." They had heard that there were palm trees in SoCal. Having never seen a palm tree they mistook the Joshua trees for palm trees hence the town's name.
On my way to Tucson, I ran into these guys changing a clutch while moving two Carnegiea gigantea (saguaro) cacti. The cacti were on their way to Palm Springs. Because of the need for more stripmalls & parking lots, there are lots of cacti that need to be moved. Of note, saguaros are protected, but asshats like to shoot them. The Austin Lounge Lizards wrote a song about one such asshat--who died wearing a cactus hat--David Grundman: youtube.com/watch?v=9_9LDLur5Pā¦
