This week, I went to Schönau am Königsee (close to Berchtesgaden) for a 5 day #hiking trip. Weather was a bit unpredictable, but last Sunday was great and we had an amazing hike up to Grünstein and Archenkanzel. It was quite an extensive hike (by my standards), but there were so many great sights!
One of those I have to share directly: A view of the Watzmann - with its highest peak 2713 m above sea. I took plenty of images and have many more to edit (& share 😉 )

The photograph features a snowy field, with a lone, straggly pine tree in the dark. It’s dark, so it is difficult to see any details or features, but we can see it is snowy. The lone pine tree has short branches, isn’t very tall, and is crooked. But it is making it all the same. What makes this photograph, though, is the aurora in the top two-thirds of the photograph. Way to bury the lede, right? Anyway, this is a curtain-kind of aurora, and it appears to be coming down from left to right, top to bottom. The lower right-hand corner doesn't have any yet, and you can see the blue of the sky and the stars beyond. The colors range from a light turquoise in the upper left corner to purples in the lower left, then blues, a little red, and some neon green at the front edge of the aurora, leading up to the middle right. It is as if colored curtains are being drawn over the scene. The darkness of the foreground and the loneliness of the pine, juxtaposed with the colorful auroras, make an interesting composition.
