My absolute favourite natural phenomenon (up with sunlight glittering on waves) is what in Japanese is called "KOMOREBI". It literally means sunlight (bi) leaking through (more) trees (ko). To me, it is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and grounding activities to just watch these sunspots dancing. Or even when there is no wind and the leaves just paint beautiful pictures of light and shadow. So of course, I have hundreds of photos and videos of fantastic moments of komorebi saved on my phone.
I feel so blessed and lucky that I got to see and capture an ECLIPSE version of it today. So special and so beautiful. I will remember this 💖🥹

I think this was my favourite photo of the set that I took. It's not at maximum coverage, but it does have a sun spot group (4508) just on the cusp of the terminator.

Partial eclipse from Germany. Really happy with how this shot turned out. Taken with an Acuter Elite Phoenix 40 and a ToupTek G3M678M.

I share with you a modest timelapse of the #eclipse.
In our case, it has not reached the totality but it has been exciting all the same.
First time photographing an eclipse.
Wish totality was longer than 1 min 50 seconds.
So much to see, to experience, to learn.
Sun was behind a bit of a haze, but I still managed to catch a few shots.
Why is the eclipse coverage just showing the same near-identical close-up from every location?
Wouldn't it make more sense to show a long shot of the different landscapes with the eclipse in the background? 🤔
❝ Unfortunately, much of the population of North America will not see a lot. A total of 9 percent of the sun will be covered when viewed from New York City at 1:54 P.M. EDT, while Portland, Maine, will see 19 percent of the sun covered at around the same time. ❞
BOOOOO! Iceland, Ethpain and Portugal gonna have all the fun.

#eclipse suggestion & request: how'bout we create a stream of tagged eclipse photos (taken just when the sun is most hidden) of tomorrow's eclipse!
Post consisting of a photo (showing the eclipsed sun), time of maximum eclipse for your location* and the name of the location.
Use hashtag #EclipseStream
Please boost so more people join! Might become a nice timelapse!

March 2015, and a frustrating morning spent trying to image the partial eclipse from our home in Fife.
I had a small success with a kitchen colander, but nothing I tried gave me a satisfying result. I went upstairs for a break and walked into my bedroom, where a crystal was hanging in the window.
Spread across the bedroom wall were lovely rainbow crescents, dozens of them.
For tomorrow, I have my telescope with a solar filter, so no worries!
Right, I have a telescope, a solar filter, the possibility of a central London location 8 floors up with a west facing balcony and a solar eclipse to photograph.
I fully expect it to rain tomorrow at 7pm.
🌌 August 12, 2026 is a genuinely rare day for skywatching: three major celestial events land in a single 24-hour window.
Before sunrise: six planets (Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune) stretch across the sky in a wide alignment. Mars and Saturn are easy naked-eye targets. Uranus and Neptune need binoculars or a telescope.
During the day/evening: a total solar eclipse sweeps from Siberia across Greenland and Iceland, then over northern Spain and Portugal near sunset. Partial eclipse visible across much of North America and Europe. First total eclipse on mainland Europe since 1999.
After dark: the Perseid meteor shower peaks under a moonless sky. NASA predicts up to 50-100 meteors per hour, and without moonlight this is the best Perseid viewing until 2045.

The Universe tried to stop me so hard from enjoying the eclipse. So many problems it threw at me. Well, guess what Universe, I will still go. Yes no Sasha, yes no Tortuga, yes other problems, but I will go.
We meet up somewhere in Spain to see the total solar eclipse. I fixed the telescope. We have all we need. We go and see.
I will try to also record it but my priority is to see it.
