Finally saw 2001: A Space Odyssey
Here’s my synopsis:

Part 1: Ape men shouting. so much shouting

Part 2: the part everyone remembers with iconic space travel shots and HAL, which could’ve been a kick-ass movie

Part 3: Let’s experience what it’s like to do LSD, probably! Woohooo!

My review: a whole HOUR could’ve been edited out of this movie for PACING reasons, and nothing would’ve been lost.

This afternoon's movie was Flight of the Navigator (1986). A fun, feel-good family movie — though, the NASA guy was a bit creepy and dark. The plot was simple and the runtime short. One of the first movies to use CGI extensively and while it doesn't hold up well, it's a great snapshot into what CGI was like in the mid-80s. Alan Silvestri's synth score for the movie is interesting.

Rated 7 out of 10.

I should watch Oblivion again. This is a nice short documentary on how director Joseph Kosinski and his crew make Oblivion look so good by shooting as much as they could in camera.

Oblivion is not a smart movie, it’s full of flaws. But it is a beautiful movie and one that is fun to watch with the brain turned down a bit.

Event Horizon: Not as bad as I remembered from when I originally saw this on the big screen.

Random thoughts: Horror Solaris. I love that the Event Horizon is an upside down crucifix.

The original cut was 30 minutes longer and had more development of the supporting characters, studio execs asked Anderson to cut the film because they found it too disgusting, gory and unsettling. I’d love to see the original cut.

I finished watching Sunshine (2007) again. Such a beautiful movie that has a controversial third act. I'm not a fan of the third act, but this thread I found made me start to rethink what the third act really means -- or could have meant.

I finished the first season of seaQuest DSV and I really liked the first half. The second half was questionable. I just started the second season and already it’s gone full fantasy with genetically engineered soldiers who have natural camouflage.

I may quit now and just remember the show as a single season show.

Also, I found this and it doesn’t bode well for the rest of the show.
