And yet here we are, August 12th and finally UKGOV is acknowledging there is a serious problem
Reminds one of COVID, doesn't it?
Will we be clapping for (underpaid and understaffed) Firefighters now?

We're going to be ok everyone, Andy's in charge /s

Wow β Spokane did an evacuation drill back in April! That might help explain why, even though the recent fire was devastating in the number of homes and other buildings destroyed, it seems there was no loss of life and a hospital was able to do a successful evacuation.
"The city learned about evacuation bottlenecks, the types of warnings and directions that were most effective and other challenges. The exercise also encouraged residents to sign up for emergency alerts, familiarize themselves with evacuation routes and think through critical decisions before an actual wildfire threatened their homes."

More than 220,000 evacuated in France and Spain due to wildfires
French firefighters battle a blaze heading towards Bordeaux while officials in Madrid say they face the "worst fire in the history of the region".Jessica Rawnsley (BBC News)
What is going on at the Times?
They have a main headline attacking net zero over a photo of the French wildfires arguably caused by climate change?
Are the editors stupid?
Do they think their readers are?
Are they trying to subvert their own message?

The sad truth about the Canadian wildfires (gift link):
theatlantic.com/science/2026/0β¦
When the boreal forests of Canada catch on fire, no one can do anything about it in many cases.
Many people simply donβt grasp the sheer magnitude of the boreal forest or what it would take to manage fires across its enormous area, Jed Kaplan, a professor in the Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment at the University of Calgary, told me: βYou canβt control these fires. You cannot put personnel, fire engines, over an area that is the size of the entire American South, or something like that. Itβs just way too big of an area.β
And so the fires spread, pouring out smoke that washes over the residents of faraway cities.
Canadaβs Forests Will Burn and Burn
Once a wildfire starts, it can spread to an area too massive to control.Joshua Partlow (The Atlantic)
