i've found it. the roundest robin

it was very sleepy, opening its eyes at the click of the Fancy Camera shutter and then closing them again

An American robin (Turdus migratorius), a bird with a grey body and red breast, standing in a grubby bit of woods. While normally thrush-shaped, this one is puffed up into an almost perfect ball and its eyes are closed.

Birdhouse question for #birds #birding folks. I've been growing "birdhouse gourds" for a couple years. Last year I was worrying about a short growing season and let some gourds get much (much, much) too large for ditty birds; the one pictured is 16 inches tall and 11 inches wide in the "bulb". I could put in a larger hole nearer the top and hope for larger cavity nesters, but the shape doesn't seem like it would be attractive to such birds. Any ideas/opinions?

Below the duck is more fog blending into a reflection of the trees in the background with the golden glow of sunrise extending to the bottom.
