I know I’m an old man yelling at the clouds here but the fact that some of the most hardcore right-wingers of the last very conservative administration—Cheney and now Gonzales—are backing Harris should give the press leave to stop treating this as a normal contest.
Even when/if Harris wins, that sustained red line will remain an indictment on the social and economic order of the US, long after the last ballot is cast.

Trump was up by 1.1 points in 538’s average the day after the Biden debate. Harris is up by 2.8 this morning.
We won’t see a dozen stories every day about Republicans freaking out or a zillion polls showing voters questioning Trump’s fitness for office.
This will be about the size of it.
