RE: toot.fedilab.app/@apps/1170957…

Tom, the creator of @apps and @HolosSocial has started a new project:
It's called Fedihood
FediHood.social

It connects people by location, and topic, so you can find people near you by topic.

You can find me there too: @joergi@fedihood.social

#feDIVERSE #fedihood #fedi #HoloSocial #fedilab

#FediHood keeps growing, and many bugs have been fixed thanks to your feedback.

Federation now works smoothly over #ActivityPub. The Nearby and Discover timelines work as intended, and push notifications are available. #E2EE still needs work to support several browsers or devices.

It is a good start. You can join this new fediverse software at fedihood.social

If you're a moderator, you can ask #Fedilab to grant you moderator features. For that, go to the login page, tap the three dots and check "I am a moderator" and log in to your account again to get the "admin" scope. Then you will have a dedicated Admin item in the main menu of Fedilab. You will see reports and be able to take actions. That avoids switching between Fedilab and the web app.

Ok.
But I like the idea and approach of #fedihood very much.

Will you share it on a conference to reach more people with it.

E.g. the OSCL
pretalx.com/open-source-confer…
Or a Fediverse day somewhere (e.g. Berlin)
berlinfedi.day/

#FediHood #Fedilab

I'll publish the source code of #FediHood under AGPL, then I'll go back to #Fedilab, with priority to bug reports and enhancements. FediHood support isn't a priority for the app right now.

As an open source dev for years, I'd like to share how grateful I am for your long support.

Especially to the people who support my work on #Fedilab and might worry when they see me working on another project.
I'll never step back from the Fedilab project.

Working directly on Fediverse projects just makes me freer and not dependent on an API. I somehow need that, but I won't give up where you expect regular updates.

RE: toot.fedilab.app/@apps/1170784…

I built #FediHood on the #Mastodon API, so you can connect your account with any Mastodon-compatible app, such as #Fedilab.
Fedilab will soon support the extra features at the heart of the project: finding people nearby by city via #OSM, and using #E2EE DMs.

#FediHood is now available!

Talk with people near you. A local chat on the #Fediverse where you share only your city, never your exact location. You adjust your timeline with distance and topic filters.

It's in early beta and web only for now. It connects to the whole Fediverse, and you can send #E2EE DMs between FediHood and Holos users. The source code will be published soon. Don't hesitate to share!

@apps since the new release, there is a startup notification that tells me I have over 200 programed boosts that were not sent.
Looking at it, they date back to 2024 and there's no way I'm going to delete them by hand. While I appreciate knowing about the issue, I'd like to know whether there is a quick way to purge the history and thus get rid of the nagging notification 😉
Thanks in advance for your help.

#Fedilab #programedBoosts

#FediHood should be easy to use, with a very simple interface. It fully uses #ActivityPub and is compatible with the #Mastodon API (tested with #Fedilab). It will of course bring extra endpoints related to how it works. The project reuses the combined work from #HolosSocial and #PawFed.

Here are some screenshots of the Web UI.

#Fedilab 3.43.1 has been published. This is a small release to fix the "Catte bomb". Don't open those threads without the fix, otherwise the app will freeze :)

This release also fixes quotes in notifications where the CW couldn't be opened.

@beandev

#FediLab-Abstürze

Mir leider in letzter Zeit mehrfach.
Allerdings immer in einem konkreten Anwendungsfall: sehr lange, automatisch mittels Seitenumbrüchen generierte Threads.--Hier ist es ja ein kompletter Zeitungsartikel.

To everyone who appreciates my work: I do need your financial support to keep going.

The server is 56 euros/month (Hetzner changed their prices), plus around 6/month for the backup server, and also simply paying for food and bills.

Your contributions help #Fedilab, #HolosSocial, #CastLab, #UntrackMe, and the other projects I maintain alone.
That's why your support matters, it keeps me here:

tom79.dev/support/

Thank you for considering it if you can :)

#Fedilab 3.43.0 is available!

It now targets Android 16, with lower memory usage and better stability for long sessions. Timelines load faster with a large cache, and you can set how long cached posts are kept.

Also fixed: voice recording, audio picker, animated GIFs, push on non-Mastodon software, account switching crashes and more.

I moved the #HolosSocial projects (app, relay and discover, to stay consistent) to my own git at git.holos.social/tom79

As a reminder about this choice: I used an AI to write part of the #Holos docs, and also to review and help me fix some code I had written. At first I didn't feel concerned by the debate (no vibe coding on my side), but it went further than that. Out of respect for everyone using my work, transparency and action were needed.

#Fedilab isn't affected and stays on #Codeberg.

RE: toot.fedilab.app/@apps/1169814…

There are three ways to get #Fedilab beta releases:

- The beta channel on Google Play, by opting in from the app description
- #FDroid through our custom repo fdroid.fedilab.app
- The APK attached to the release notes

PS: all these APKs are signed by me. If you have an F-Droid version, you first need to export your data in settings, remove the app (due to the signature mismatch), install, then import your previous data from the login page. Everything will be restored immediately.

#Fedilab 3.43.0-beta-1 has been published in the dev channel. This release now targets Android 16, which is why I'm releasing it as a beta first.

To beta testers: could you check that you don't have any layout issues with this version? Thanks!

Hi Fedilab,
@apps
I have stopped using the app, coz of one reason. Until that's solved, I couldn't use the app 😭.

When there's some notifications, it goes to read just coz I navigated to the tab. So hard.
So please either mark as read only when I explicitly click a button or mark give each notification a mark as read button.

And for the fedinauts using Fedilab as client: Fedilab can be configured to use Offline Translator for postings.
