While my original proposal to hide images in order to highlight the importance of well-written alt text did not gain a whole lot of traction, I'm still glad there was some conversation, and grateful to everyone who is still interested in joining in.

Anyone have any idea what could cause federated instances to *not* pull in profile pics and headers?
I am running a separate Sharkey (Misskey fork) instance and there's a few examples of this happening.
I have CDN with Cloudflare and that seems to work. The "remote caching" feature on Sharkey is turned off. I DO have Authorized Fetch on (maybe this is the issue?) However, both my instance and another instance have issues pulling icons and headers both ways (Mine doesn't show up on certain instances either)
Most of the stuff that I talked about here, I've just done today, so it COULD be that it just needs time to update, but I am unsure right now.

And this is why I currently love AI....I took the Oliphant's Unified Tier 0 Blocklist CSV and ChatGPT gave me the list of domains within so I can import it into Misskey/Sharkey.
I'd post it here, but Mastodon doesn't let you upload files that aren't "media".🤷♂️

Why does everything have to be confusing? Why can't stuff just "work"? 😩
Trying to setup Backblaze B2 with Sharkey and there's a "Base URL" option. I asked about it in the Sharkey discord and was told I could "CNAME a subdomain to the bucket". Which I know how to do 2/3 of that but once I enter the subdomain for CNAME, how do I link that to the bucket?
I kinda wish Mastodon didn't exist at this point with how straight forward everything is vs how not straightforward this has been so far.
I prefer the Misskey/Sharkey look, but I am SO spoiled by Mastodon's documentation.
Apparently this isn't gonna be as easy as the docs make it seem...😬
Set all the settings "correctly" I thought. But then when I went to start the instance, it seemed to work, but then disconnected me from SSH and refused to let me reconnect.
Oh well, I killed the droplet and will start again tomorrow. Maybe it'll just "work" next time but I highly doubt it....🤦♂️
I feel like my Linux ignorance is hindering me here...🤷♂️

Are you seeing posts in Federated with no connection to anyone on your instance or anyone they follow?
It happened to me recently and the root cause turned out to be #Streams accounts that were following me. I wasn't following them or interacting with them, but they were somehow able to push irrelevant content to my instance, not just from Streams but all over the Fediverse.
When I suspended the Streams instances, all of the unexplained content stopped.
Not JUST a scraper, they're literally and unapologetically selling our content.😳WHAT THE FUCK!!

There's a service called FediBuzz Relay which provides highly specialised relays of particular hashtags or particular instances:
When I've told admins about this service, opinions have gone in two opposite directions, with some praising it as an easy way of quickly adding specialised content to small instances, while others say it's misusing the Fediverse.
Would appreciate honest opinions about it.
