Capitalism: a social system where the rich live and the poor die.

Ireland’s two-tier cancer drug system: ‘I can give one drug to one lot of patients, not to another’

So tonight might have ended in karaoke 🙊

The amazing singer I’m with is Holly and any screw ups are courtesy of me – have loved the song forever, but my first time singing it :)

(Video by Sandy, the lovely bartender who introduced us; apologies for the quality.)

A sentiment I can completely get behind.

A little tour of the Greystones coastline from my OneWheel. (Decided to treat myself to a crepe and make the most of the dregs of the good weather from this week.) :)

@bob If an instance is going to silence/block someone for their political posts, it should make that information public so people can use it when deciding whether to join that server. For people in #Ireland, for example, it is very relevant information to know if someone is silenced by mastodon.ie for their posts opposing #Israel’s #genocide of the #Palestinian people in #Gaza, should it turn out to be the case. Assuming that wouldn’t sit well with a lot of Irish folks.

Interesting: I just tried following someone on mastodon.ie with an unlocked account and it got turned into a follow request.

Has mastodon.ie silenced me?

If so, I’d like to know why.

CC @mastodonie

PS. This won’t affect you if you’re already following me. It will mean my posts would get hidden from the public timeline and wouldn’t show up in trending posts, etc., on your instance. Hence “silenced.”

Sitting outside on a rare sunny day at a lovely pub in Bray, refactoring Kitten* to pull out the settings page sections into their own pages (and use Kitten’s new Streaming HTML workflow**) and enjoying a yummy pint of Tundra IPA.

No complaints :)

Calling all over-80s in Ireland!

(When you enter Ireland a leprechaun greets all under 80s at the border and gives you a lucky charm with immunity to COVID so we only offer the booster to over 80s.)

The UN General Assembly is expected to vote overwhelmingly in favour of enhanced Palestinian membership of the United Nations.

And it could carry far-reaching consequences.

The draft text, co-sponsored by #Ireland among others, will recognise that #Palestine is qualified for full #UN membership and recommend that the Security Council reconsider the matter, after it was blocked by a US veto last month.

Not sure I put them on as elegantly as possible but I do love my new rainbow laces :)

(If you’re in Ireland you can get your own pair at SuperValu. All proceeds go to Belong To – LGBTQ+ Youth Ireland.)

Only last week I toured all the pharmacies in Bray with the following results:
- We don't do covid vaccinations outside of flu season (lol).
- If you're not 70+ or pregnant HSE says you can't get covid so you don't need vaccines.
- There's a shortage of doses so no private vaccination. Because why would you order enough if you can get away with the bare minimum?

Meanwhile in Ireland, you can get your first dose of the Covid vaccine at age 12 and, in just 68 years, you can get your first booster.

Because that’s cool and normal.

I'm disappointed that this is not black metal. Otherwise great performance.

Folks, this is a deceptive design pattern. There is a very clear third option here (keep me updated on this campaign’s progress only) that is not implemented for marketing reasons.

I expect better from a platform that exists to effect ‘progressive change across Ireland’.

(3/n)

...to import duties, and does it really originate in the #UK?

I could see the #UK customers having to pay more now, as the #EU is a customs union that has signed #FTA|s with many countries. The #UK will not be able to replicate that. Still, these duties would not be levied in #Ireland, but the #UK.

So, where does it come from, and why has it...

Seen from a sarcastic perspective, one could arrive at the conclusion that the #UK has finally begun to pay reparations for hundreds of years of #Brithish occupation, ending in independence in 1931.
