I had not seen the movie Cloverfield since I watched it in theaters when it was released. I just finished watching it because it came up on Paramount+. I was left feeling "meh" about the movie. This is a movie about stupid people doing stupid things -- and that makes it really hard for me to empathize with the characters.

Cloverfield is totally a product of its time when found footage movies were a thing.

I prefer (and really love) the second film in this series, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and have seen that multiple times.

Godzilla Minus One is a true Godzilla movie. It accomplishes what the two American movies (1998 and 2014) couldn’t: It told an emotional human story within the backdrop of a Kaiju movie.

The main character goes through a full cycle of emotions from shame to guilt to depression and finally redemption. The characters in the movie are well-written, memorable and grounded.

Godzilla in the movie is awesome and terrifying. The opening smaller Godzilla is absolutely frightening with his speed and ferocity.

The special effects are stunning as is the cinematography. The movie is truly a painting in motion.

The score for the film is melodic poetry.

Rated 9 out of 10.

I could need a bit of help regarding an old US movie which I cannot remember the title of.

It is a about a couple, probably set in the 1950s and black and white, which goes on their honeymoon in the US with a caravan. Everything goes wrong and I remember that at one point, the caravan comes off from the car and roles down a hill, I think with the bride still inside.

Tonight's Family Movie Night film was Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) a nostalgic continuation of the Ghostbusters timeline that included Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) -- and thankfully discards the reboot film Ghostbusters (2016).

As a fan of the 1980s films, there was enough nostalgia and references to the original movies to keep me happy. The movie is also really funny in its own way and that made it so entertaining. Mckenna Grace carries the movie perfectly with her super dry humor. The focus on the characters and their relationships was the emotional backbone of the film. The effects in the movie were great in that they both looked old, yet they felt modern. And the cinematography of the film by Eric Steelberg is stunningly gorgeous.

The visuals, especially the city are beautiful and creative.

The relationship between Ember and Wade didn’t really work. It is this relationship that takes up a large part of the movie and that doesn’t bode well for the movie.

What really worked and that I would have had a lot more of was the relationship between Ember and her father. That was the emotional center of the movie. I am sad that it wasn't given enough time.
