Last night, I was out on the Summit Trail near Wickersham Dome, and I came across possibly 2 or 3 different species of dwarf willow. To the best of my knowledge, the ones photographed here are both Salix phlebophylla (1: male catkins and 2: female catkins). I have my work cut out for me in properly identifying all the species I have photographed so far, and I just wrote an article on the problem this morning: https://www.lwpetersen.com/alaska-wildflowers/introduction-to-dwarf-willows-of-alaska/

My sweet, newly adopted dog is recovering from her first treatment for heartworm. The treatment kicked her ass, but now it's 6 days after the first injection and she's feeling much better. She felt well enough to pose in front of the pretty posies for me.

Eschscholzia californica (California poppy) is one of my favorites! Orange being my second favorite color.

Blumen gehen auch in Schwarz-Weiß - auch wenn die Holde das anders sieht.

Wobei ich auch zugeben muss, das die meisten mir in Farbe auch besser gefallen.

Oxeye daisy. The geometric fractal pattern in its center is like my mammillaria cactus.

Here, take some flowers, because tomorrow is Monday. Well, in the US, it's a holiday weekend... I will be working at the gallery tomorrow though...
This is an iris I found in the park the other day. The color combination is striking.

New blossoms are showing up every morning now. Summer took me on a tour so we could get some photos to text to my daughter and toot to you.

Ozark chinkapin, Castanea ozarkensis, is a chestnut tree endemic to the Ozark region. The early 20th century chestnut blight decimated its populations like American chestnut.

This shows the species in bloom and it smells incredible! It has a tremendous amount of attention from various insects and bugs. I've counted five bee species, two ant species, two beetle species, flies, wasps, etc. I'm seeing in very small part, its former ecological role as a dominant species.

This lens flare - I'm imagining a whole sci-fi story about plants that throw green fireballs.

This evening in our backyard, the Dwarf Lake Irises of Michigan are in all their miniature glory.

My garden is a love letter.
To my partner, my friends, my neighbours, the bees, the trees the Earth. And maybe even to you who might appreciate some of it's beauty 😉

Having been here for years, many plants have a story, memory, motivation associated with them. I am going to share my garden pictures in this thread throughout the season.

My partner always wanted a Magnolia, so I'm taking extra care of this youngin.

I don’t find a lot of Painted Trillium [Trillium undulatum] in the woods, but was lucky to find this sweet little patch.

My garden right now. Heaps of flowers. Hard to believe this was a wasteland of lawn a year ago.

The California poppies were volunteers. I love how many bumble bees they attract.

Yesterday was a fantastic day of hiking and photography in Alaska. I updated a wildflower guide, captured a black-capped chickadee collecting nest material, saw my first blooming wildflower of the season (northern kittentails), and hiked Wickersham Dome, unexpectedly meeting an old friend.

Blogpost with lots of photos: https://www.lwpetersen.com/photo-blog/some-photos-from-home-and-from-wickersham-dome/
