Every year, my Echinacea purpurea put forth dozens of blooms. Almost as fast as they form, something starts methodically removing the florets, leaving each flowerhead a ragged mess. I've never actually seen what is doing it or if it is being done by multiple visitors. The bees seem not to mind anyway.

I had access to an abundance of new to me dahlia tubers this year.
The wait for them to open up is often long.
This one is called Terracotta and it has been teasing a flower for weeks. It is big and beautiful and worth the wait.

The first flower got scorched in the sun, the second flower caught fire, fell over and then sank into the swamp, but the third flower... The third flower is beautiful!
