My new bookblog - it's called 'Quite Bookish', which in time is going to become the name of my book editing business.

I took another look at S*b*a*k as a potential place to host it, but recoiled. It's such an odd platform.

In the end, I've gone for tried and trusted WordPress with my own domain.

Very pleased (and surprised) to discover quitebookish.com was available.

My introductory post tells you what it's all about.

Navidson: Why won't you publish my documentary??

Film Producer: Well, first there's the pacing issue.

Navidson: YES!!! That's what I've been trying to explain! The house measures a half pace bigger on the inside!!

Ohhhhhhh. Sagan Hawkes just dropped a three and a half mile essay about The House Of Leaves..........

(If you haven't read the book, go do that first, and since he's gonna tie this in with MyHouse.wad, then play that or watch a playthrough, and only then watch the essay.)

(Seriously. House of Leaves is not a read so much as an experience. It's the book I feel the most about every time I'm reminded it exists.)

If I say it enough times, I'll start to believe it, right?

What are you reading for #ReadingTolkienDay? I've taken Unfinished Tales of the shelf and look forward to reading some of the shorter pieces toward the back after dinner tonight.

UT, to my mind, is the last canonical book. After that it's all mainly insight into Tolkien's process. Over a shelf metre of insight! 😄

The deaf blacksmith who married in 1576 – and the history of sign as a legal language

The medieval church’s acknowledgement that signs were equivalent to a spoken language was transformative for deaf people.

A lot of people think stories of the supernatural are just a joke. Dan Mackmain knows better. That's why the Green Man sends him to step in, when the uncanny and the everyday collide.

I am one of the nearly 10,000 authors contributing our names to Don't Steal This Book; a protest launched today at the London Book Fair.

If AI developers wish to use our work in their software they can ask us for permission. If we agree, they can pay us to license it on clearly defined terms.

This is how copyright operates.

Tech companies ignoring copyright is theft. For the UK government to even consider allowing this to continue is a disgrace.

This struck me as a lovely idea. A citywide book club for people who read on the bus. The Dublin Bus book club selects a book by an Irish author every six weeks.

Also a lovely idea: instead of partnering with a company like Amazon, they’ve partnered with a beloved local independent book store, Chapters, for discounted books and events for the book club members.
