This flicker gave us beautiful views of her underfeathers in an extended preening session yesterday. I hope she lives forever. #FlickerFriday #FlyDay πŸ“·πŸŒΏπŸͺΆ
A photo of a female red-shafted northern flicker (Colaptes auratus), a taupe-colored woodpecker with a gray head, long dark gray beak, and black polka dots all over its belly. It is preening at the top of a dead, lichen-covered tree against a pale gray sky with its left wing extended, revealing the bright red-orange underside of its primary feathers. My first Anhinga. Seen today at Lake Whetstone in Gaithersburg, MD. A true rarity for this area. #birding #birdPhotography
