After some thought, I've determined that I get more minutes of direct sunlight if I hike counter-clockwise around the mountain than if I hike clockwise. The sun is a moving floodlight.

I'm here in #Italy for the longer days. I've been unreasonably happy and energetic today, only my fourth day in Italy. Less than a week ago I was intensely uncomfortable for no reason.

Jagged seracs where the ice pulls away from the cliffside on the Gabriel Icefall of the Gulkana Glacier.

Examples today of lenticular clouds over the Cerro Torre & Fitzroy. They appear to be moving real slow but in fact signal very high winds speeds.

Nice to see the very summit of Cerro Torre itself appearing in one of the images. The W face will be plastered with new snow but the E facing side that we can see here is so steep no snow can accumulate apart from the snow mushrooms adorning the summit slopes.

Funny thing happened. I hike with snake gaiters. And I had a carabineer hanging on the right side of the one on the right. Somehow it slowly worked its way around my leg, then completely and totally latched both gaiters together while I was hiking. I went down hard. Took a fair bit of damage.

Managed to finish the 11 mile hike, the bleeding eventually stopped, and my limp is hardly noticeable. But the most important part: My wife has no idea. She just sees my pictures 😛.

Today's hike up the Janes Creek loop. A gorgeous sunny day for a hike after all the recent storms.

Mt Rainier in the snow. Path across Grand Park on the North side of the peak, last weekend. For #FootpathFriday #hiking #PNW #getoutside

I hiked a large sand dune for the first time yesterday. What a unique experience! Quite a slog, hiking straight up the side to reach the ridge. A surprise with the challenge of walking the ridge— didn’t expect it to be so sharp. The drop-off on each side looked steeper/scarier than it actually was. A fun time! Bruneau Sand Dunes (Idaho)— 470 feet (143m) base-to-peak elevation change. #MountainMonday #hiking #nature

My take for #FootpathFriday from our vacation in the #schwarzwald / #blackforest Iast year.

#hiking in the chill rain can be a bit of a challenge. But for photography it can be pretty cool.
