Some recent lil mushroom sightings for #FungiFriday

A few fruit bodies of the green wood cup mushroom (Chlorociboria aeruginascens) growing off of a nursery log. This mushroom is a bright blue/green, and grows in small cup/saucer shaped fruits. While this is my first time seeing the fruit bodies of this mushroom in person, I have often found pieces of blue stained wood on hikes, which is caused by the same mushroom. Also known as "Green Oak," the stained wood is prized for woodworking.
A gooey looking white jelly fungus (Ductifera pululahuana) hanging out on a moss covered log. The mushroom is a light off white color and has lots of wrinkles and folds. One of the wrinkles makes a perfect heart shape!
Three tiny Black-stalked Marasmius mushrooms (Tetrapyrgos nigripes) growing out of a decaying twig. There are three mushrooms growing from shortest to tallest left to right. The bottom stems of the mushroom are a darker color, but the upper part of the stem and caps are bright white. There are tiny water drops on the edges of the caps.

Yesterday's 12 mile hike included 6 miles on the shoulder of highway 101, but Strawberry Hill was on the way and was begging to be explored! I spent a good hour there watching the harbor seals and the pelicans. Here are a few of my favorite shots.

Today is the anniversary of what I remember as the hardest day of hiking that we spent on the #AppalachianTrail. It was our second day in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and we climbed three 4K foot peaks, Wolf, South Kinsman and North Kinsman. It took 12.5 hours to go 16 miles. Lake Finnsjön. Named for Finnish swidden-agriculture farmers who were offered a tax incentive around 1600 to move to Sweden and grow rye in woodlands that nobody else could get a crop from. Demands huge areas because you only get two crops in one swidden field, then you relocate. Later competed with the ironworks which needed charcoal.

East Rosebud Canyon trail aka "beaten path" used to be busiest trail in MT. 45K thru the glacially carved canyon, then up onto the Beartooth Plateau, ending near Cooke City. Slices S-SW thru highest terrain in MT. Ravaged by 13JUN2022 flood, 11K has been rebuilt from 1930m start, to washed out bridge 2400m Rimrock Lake. A young man died trying to cross the outlet 3 weeks ago, still has not been found. Perfect conditions 10-15C not too windy 👍🏽. #hiking #dogs #climate #montana #wilderness

heading back from Rimrock Lake thru the steepest narrowest canyon section. truly amazing.
down low 2000m below Elk Lake. The browned trees are from the dry warm last fall. followed by the cold N winds Jan/Feb. which desiccated them. most are coming back.
2400m Rimrock Lake 11K in. had to return here.

I started cycling at 7am and saw this scene when the ☀️ peeked over the mountains. I passed a photographer a couple of minutes earlier who discovered a chamois in the distance, we had a quick chat and continued our ways.

To me it's just a good motive for a #silentsunday.

Day 6, Klinken-Fältjägaren, 14 km hike

Started the day with a slow moil up the slope from the Ljusnan valley. Legs felt unreasonably tired, but I hoped things would improve once the terrain flattened out.

It did not. Not even after an extended lunch rest, so I ended the day after a fairly short hike in the Fältjägaren cabin.

One other person spent the night there, and we had lots of gröna bandet talk since she had completed it a few years ago.

We are standing atop a small hill, looking over the treetops across a bay of a large lake surrounded by forests. A breeze is creating small waves on the lake surface. The sky is a deep blue with billowing shite clouds. Strong winds at the cloud level are tearing those clouds to shreds, sending wispy streamers far out ahead of the clouds.
