I hiked a large sand dune for the first time yesterday. What a unique experience! Quite a slog, hiking straight up the side to reach the ridge. A surprise with the challenge of walking the ridge— didn’t expect it to be so sharp. The drop-off on each side looked steeper/scarier than it actually was. A fun time! Bruneau Sand Dunes (Idaho)— 470 feet (143m) base-to-peak elevation change. #MountainMonday #hiking #nature

Last photos from that day in the #schwarzwald . We were pretty surprised when we came to the part shown in the last photo. The #moss was so thick there - like a real carpet! I've never seen such before. I found it pretty hard to get a photo that pays the situation justice. I hope it works for you.

Day 5 / Schwarzwald’s Black Lake and Wild Mossy Paths

On day five in the Schwarzwald, we hiked another one of Baiersbronn’s great "Himmelswege" trails. While the hike started along forest roads, the highlight was circling a tranquil, mirror-like lake surrounded by lush moss.

The northwest Scottish Highlands at its best, viewed from a very remote wee hilltop. Pre-dawn light really complimented this scene nicely, creating a lovely glow across the gneiss and lochan in the foreground. Pictured are Ruadh Stac Mor (Big Red Stack), a clear change in geology from Lewisian Gneiss to pink Torridonian Sandstone, and A' Mhaighdean (The Maiden), Scotland's most remote munro.
