Pretty blue flower clusters atop long stems, thin green leaves at the base, on a mound in a meadow. These are camas plants, Camassia quamash, a NW native meadow plant that was diminished by development and forest encroachment after Europeans arrived in North America. Now the subject of meadow restoration projects.

Two for the price of one today! A sunny day for a sculpture in New York and a rainy day for a sculpture in Budapest. The New York photo was taken by me on Friday and the Budapest photo was also taken on Friday by my husband, and edited by me. It's very sweet that he's looking for public art to take photos for me 😊

A color photo taken in front of the Hudson Yards building of a giant sized pink and purple metallic teddy bear. It is leaning back on its arms with its feet out so you can see the bottom of the foot. The bottom of the foot has the words "love matters" scratched into it in white. And the rest of the bear is covered with different words that have been scratched into it. I can see the words dream, desire and many others. The bear's eyes and nose are a bright yellow and behind it is a great deal of trees and shrubbery. Right above the trees can be seen a few floors of the Vessel, a sculpture that looks a bit like a beehive with different sets of stairs for people to walk up and see the view. It was a bright sunny day.
Taken on the same day in Budapest where it was very rainy is a photo of a sculpture of a big red apple that has had a bite taken out of it. It is sitting on a gray brick pedestal and has a green leaf sticking out of the stem. It's sitting in the middle of a shopping district. A store or two can be seen in the background with a few people and their umbrellas. Behind the Apple are three table umbrellas but no one is sitting outside because of the rain. The top of the picture shows three large green leaves with raindrops on them. The foreground is mainly gray wet cement and a walkway with some green shrubbery towards the bottom right.

A male rufous hummingbird perched atop a shepherd's hook, its gorget below its beak and around its neck flared and brilliant orange in direct sun. It's long beak is straight out and its eyes seem to project a dominant attitude, despite its tiny brown body. It is one handsome little devil!

Lot of pink magnolias around town but not many yellow. I've one nearby but it's small & its blooms brown before opening. Happy to find this one in its prime earlier this month but it's on the other side of town so I don't catch it every yr.

This variety of magnolia has 7-9 pink petals/sepals that radiate from and form a loose cup around cone-shaped reproductive structures made up a large number of stamens below a cone of pistils. This species has yellow petals/sepals, brown and yellow anthers and bright green pistils. Magnolia flowers bloom in early spring before the tree begins producing leaves.
