The internal wiring and heating element of a ‘Master Chef’ coffeemaker (not a bad machine most days) with its bottom cover removed, repair in progress. A blocked cold feed tube down to the horseshoe was the issue, probably my fault for letting something fall into the reservoir—it looked like a bit of cinnamon stick caught at the narrow point. And then broken lines, as they’d grown brittle and broke on disassembly. Note the classic bi-metallic corrosion built into the design (white oxidation where element was affixed to the underside carafe’s hot plate and brown-yellow oxidation stains where bracket clamps element)—total failure still on the way, but thwarted for the moment.
Same photo, feed and hot tubes replaced. Let’s take a sip from the first-run p-test now (production system using ‘live’ coffee vs. test water—not pee!)… Ah, yes… Taste that? Non-compliance is sweet and delicious.

I took a chance and headed out even though the weather forecast said cloudy as hell and am I lucky I did?
I was lucky to finally see some auroras again, even though the moonlight was really bright.

I had (as usual) way to many photos with me home, but better safe than sorry ;-)

Here is one of the photos. Not of the aurora though.
I LOVE to be out there in the silence, it was very quiet and it was not until I was ready to go home that I heard a deer screaming.

Dance with me aurora :-)

Three photos of tonights Aurora Borealis dancing in the sky. A very happy me is standing in the first image when the aurora started to get visible dispite the bright moonlight. In the second one the aurora is peaking in its colours and strenght and in the third one the clouds are taking over the sky.

Being a potter means drawing from a vocabulary of tried-and-true forms: mugs, teapots, bowls, pitchers, etc. However, these archetypal forms have European & Asian origins.

I thought it would be interesting to everyone & affirming to other Black ceramicists to reference #African forms in contemporary tableware. The combining of European, Asian and African ceramics traditions goes back to mid-20th century, but that history is omitted from US #ceramic education. See #alttext for details. #pottery

A small jug with a spout, made to reference the iconic form of Nupe storage vessels from Nigeria. The jug is spherical and voluminous at the bottom, narrow at the neck and flares out into a cup shape at the top. It is heavily decorated with carved geometric patterns, painted with orange clay slip from Tennessee, variegated brown clay slip from Lake Ontario and bright chartreuse green glazed accents.
A large storage vessels from the Nupe culture of Nigeria, 20th century. It is dark brown and mostly unglazed except for a few bands of shiny, vitrified slip that have flaked off over the years. It has the same proportions referenced in the piece Osa made, with similar carved geometric patterning. This vessel however does not include a spout and is too large to lift and pour. It was probably mainly used for storage of liquids, grains, seeds, etc.

I’ve been having trouble uploading videos to Mastodon mobile app for a couple weeks now so I decided to try a new client. I downloaded a couple and liked #IceCubes the best. It works really well and also it’s very aesthetically pleasing, and makes the Fediverse feel like a warmer place. (It does use #OpenAI to generate #alttext and as a writing assistant which I’m fine with but I know that’s a dealbreaker for some.)

Unsubscribe from all emails. Go to the actual site and leave site reviews telling them exactly what you're doing and why. Every company tracks NPS scores, consumer sentiment, to direct future plans. Email customer service. Daily. Fill your carts and abandon them. But don't fill with crazy high ticket ones. Fill with what you would normally purchase. High ticket items they'll ignore as flukes/bots. People whose shopping data they already have, who fill and abandon, they'll pay more attention to. Not everyone can boycott places like Walmart, I know, I grew up in a super rural area. Research brands they carry that are the lesser of all evils if nothing else and buy those. The big brands will lose market share. They HATE to lose market share. They'll scramble to figure out why and where it's going. Seeing the impact will take time. Its earnings call season for most retailers who ended their fiscal years on 1/31. We won't see their Q1 2025 results until May. HOLD THE LINE.

Around the door is the dark-wood doorframe. The moment is calm yet uplifted & cheery.

Aurora Borealis - Pure Joy!!

It was just a coincidence that I looked out the kitchen window as I was about to go to bed, and saw a pale green light.
And no one is happier than me that I choosed to pack the camera stuff, the tripod, and jumped into my clothes at 12 o'clock (UTC+1).

It started a little cautiously but 1 ½ hours later, -7 degrees Celsius and both cold toes and fingers gave it results!
