Some People Really Are Mosquito Magnets, and They're Stuck That Way

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/some-people-really-are-mosquito-magnets-and-theyre-stuck-that-way/

> Certain compounds in our skin determine how much we attract mosquitoes, new research suggests—and those compounds don’t change much over time

This was a nice glacier close encounter a few years ago, just on the Swedish side of the border in Sulitelma.

The trail markers of MTB trails showcase the poetry of creation. Made by volunteers, when you ride these at the end your legs, lungs, and soul agree: 'apt'. Let's do that one more time... #biking #mtb #pnw #westwoodplateau #nature #hiking

Meet RUSTY.

Best thing I’ve seen in a while. Of course it’s in #SantaFe #NewMexico. At the entrance to a hiking trail. The idea is when you return to your car after a hike, you pour any unused water from your water bottles into Rusty’s mouth and, well, he “pees” it onto the young tree, to water it.

I love the little details, like the hex nuts as Rusty’s toes on his paws.

Bravo. And woof!

Yesterday was a fantastic day of hiking and photography in Alaska. I updated a wildflower guide, captured a black-capped chickadee collecting nest material, saw my first blooming wildflower of the season (northern kittentails), and hiked Wickersham Dome, unexpectedly meeting an old friend.

Blogpost with lots of photos: https://www.lwpetersen.com/photo-blog/some-photos-from-home-and-from-wickersham-dome/

Watch your steps when hiking, the painted turtles are everywhere here now.

Lot of bird activity on the morning hike, marsh wren singing while building a nest, a black-capped chickadee apparently nesting in a woodpecker hole and a downy woodpecker doing its thing. Oh yes, my fav beaver Little Whittle was in the channel chilling, I love that cutie. #Hiking #GetOutside, it’s how I keep from going crazy.

Pacific Crest Trail: Part 1

Mount Hood looks stunning from up here on Table Mountain. I was informed by a frankly terrified-looking day hiker that black bears were seen up here last night. I’m proceeding with caution and will update you if I encounter them. 🐻🗻☀️

Measuring with your finger how long until sunset.

Each average finger is 15 minutes thick!

Some more photos from the run. We had a fair bit of rain yesterday, which made for more soggy spots but also encouraged more tree leaves out. Instead of drab grey and spots of evergreens, the hillsides are sporting clusters of light green.

Eastern Box Turtle

Found on a trail in Birdsboro Waters today. Looks like its number is declining. Listed as vulnerable.

I am quite unusually #happy today, feeling a particular #love for my family, friends & colleagues, work & hobbies. It's hard to beat the effects of three cups of tea, a sunny day and a scenic hike. ♥️
