Yah, how can I not want to give up the internet game?! It is getting shittier and shittier.

The incentive is the issue, not the technology. When you have millions of humans who are poor, but also taught that making money and consuming is important, then they do their best to make money.

No regulation or law will work.

The solution? Maybe get people out of poverty, give everyone their basic needs at least so we dont have hungry hyenas everywhere trying to hunt everyone. This is a discussion that is lacking among those who complain about the state of the internet...

The rich can’t see how they’re setting themselves up for collapse. Replacing junior roles with #AI means no new senior roles. LLMs can only regurgitate, not innovate. Result: cognitive stagnation.

The only people who learn and innovate will be in the fringes and underground. They will be hard as nails and *smart*.

Pharmaceutical companies in the #EU are required by law to have a "qualified Person" (QP). Their sole purpose is to sign of the entire (incredible complex) manufacturing process of the drugs the company produces every day and take the blame (i.e. get fired) in case of errors or costly product recalls.

Overseeing and signing of #ai processes however, sounds even worse, as it is literally impossible for a person to understand the inner workings of the black box...

I feel like the general populace might not realize the importance of this idea that @pluralistic shares:

what Dan Davies calles an "accountability sink." The radiologist's job isn't really to oversee the AI's work, it's to take the blame for the AI's mistakes.

this human (sometimes only nominally) in the loop is central to law as a whole not being broken

it's also of utmost importance for weapons of war, where AI actually is having life and death impact right now, with non-hypotheticals like "how do we make sure the system doesn't kill innocents without repercussions"

because if there's no repercussions the system will end up externalizing on the way to maximizing other metrics

I have a question. Because everyone is integrating these stupid chatbots for "summaries", I am very skeptical of having my work circulating, even just internally within the university cohort, because I don't want my stuff to be fed to LLMs.
Is there a way to export these files in a was that when people feeds them to their "assistants" the assistants' dataset gets "poisoned" and can scrap it properly?

Mistral.ai had a major release: mistral.ai/news/mistral-3

Three smaller, dense models and Mistral 3 Large, a large mixture-of-experts model (41B active and 675B total parameters). According to the first benchmarks, this puts it in the same league as the best open models (currently all Chinese).

Mistral's release includes the base model, not just the fine-tuned version as it had become more common. Plus, they used an Apache 2.0 license. That combination will likely open up fine-tunes from the community and makes it more useful for companies.

Mistral 3 Large is not a reasoning model, but they mentioned that a reasoning version should be coming soon.

I didn't have the chance to try them out myself. For specific problems like German content, I personally found Mistral 2 Large (from 2024) still doing better than the top Chinese ones (DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, GLM), even if they otherwise are very capable.
