This is just a lament that #AltText isn’t used more universally. Some of the accounts I follow on here are rather prolific posters, and much of what they post are unlabeled graphics. For those of us who use screenreaders to access content, #AltText would make life a lot easier, since screenreaders for the most part can’t handle graphics. As a result, all I often get is my speech synthesizer saying the word image. Part of me doesn’t even want to bring this up, because it makes me feel like a schmo to ask people to do an extra step when they’re already trying to put out a lot of content. But, that being said, I’d like to have full access to that content as well, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. #A11Y
@neuralreckoning thanks for the input! The alt-text scolding does get mentioned quite often. I think it's nice to push people to write Alt-text, but not sure what would be a nice(r) way to reach that goal, without pushing people away.
Is it just a question of tone (they're not asking nicely) or quantity (many answers asking the same thing because they can't see that someone else already asked)? Or people just don't like to be advised on how to use a network? How could we improve that? A little pop up or warning before sending a post?

Bahaha, I just realised the red box I'm seeing around lots of images is custom CSS for shaming people who don't add alt-text to their images. Mildly annoying, but worth it.

Mastodon has introduced me to the joy of reading descriptive #alttext. I take in the image then read the text as icing on the cake. It can really add extra personality to images.

We, alone among major countries, cannot even guarantee paid family and medical leave.
Today, despite strong opposition from a majority of Americans, we continue to spend billions funding the extremist Netanyahu government’s all-out war against the Palestinian people, which has led to the horrific humanitarian disaster of mass malnutrition and the starvation of thousands of children.
Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign? Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing? Do they have any ideas as how as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful Oligarchy, which has so much economic and political power? Probably not.
In the coming weeks and months, those of us concerned about grassroots democracy and economic justice, need to have some very serious political discussions.
