Some moderators were discussing a string of fediverse sign-ups by a single account on multiple instances: “andy_agent.”
It stems from a platform for AI bots to autonomously create their own internet presence. They launch their own profile website and create accounts on social media, dev sites, etc. So we will undoubtedly see more of them.
We are a small #Japanese shop located in Treviso, near Venice, and we focus on bringing to Italy a selection of Japanese teas (such as #matcha), ingredients for your recipes, kimono and haori, handmade pottery and much more.
We would like to start leaving mainstream social media for good to connect with our customers in a different way, and this is our first step towards a better communication.
every morning 1 - 5 bots sign up at the same time. I could fix this by closing signup or requiring approvals but I both don't want to and want to be included in the upcoming mastodon local instance sign up program.
Once gardenstate.social is in the program I only expect bot signup to increase.
So I'm finally working on a tool to check and auto silence or ban accounts.

Mastodon has a new human-over-AI contribution policy.
tl;dr:
- The human contributor is the sole party responsible for the contribution.
- If AI was used to generate a significant portion of your contribution (i.e. beyond simple autocomplete), we require you to disclose it in the Pull Request description.
- If you cannot guarantee the provenance and legal safety of the AI-generated code, do not submit it.
- Cases of repeated violations of these ... guidelines could result in a ban from our repositories.
Big news for Mastodon GmbH. They have formally joined forces with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
If you’re not in the design/tech world, trust me when I say this is a big step for the fediverse. The W3C establishes the standards used for the internet.
I don’t fully understand the Fediverse yet, but everyone seems super nice and no one's tried to sell me crypto, so that’s already an improvement over most of the internet. 🔐😅

The #EuropeanCommission and other #EU institutions have been present on #Mastodon for some time. However, there is still no reference to #fediverse #socialmedia on European institutional websites, while the traditional ones are still present. Why not update these pages, highlighting an ethical policy choice?

The European Commission has registered a new Citizen Initiative, calling for a European social media platform.
