I love Mastodon, but looking at it for even a few minutes each day causes me to blow through my data allotment and run out of data before the month ends. I turned off the automatic loading of pictures, which in theory should help a little (although links to news articles are still accompanied by pictures).
The obvious downside of not having all pictures load automatically is that I don't know what they show. I would like to view the alt text, but clicking on an "ALT" badge results in the picture loading and doesn't show the alt text! What is the procedure for viewing alt text while reading Mastodon on a phone?

Does anyone know if it's possible to have two accounts on the same instance and how easy it is to cross-post if so? I'd like to switch around to having two accounts with one dedicated to one thing and another to everything else but would like to keep using this instance (don't want to clutter this with discussion of why.) Ideally I'd like to be able to just click on something to switch accounts, but if it means logging off and back on I'll have to do two instances.

I just discovered that on #Mastodon (on desktop) you can go to Settings -> "Follows and Followers" and spot dormant accounts you follow. You can even sort them by "last active". That's super useful!
(Because I'm about to gently persuade my friends - previously active here - to resume posting on Mastodon) 💁🏻♀️

Due to the #pricing of the .social domain (32$). And the additional #server price (21$/month) and no #support. We will probably be #shutting #down this #instance at the end of the month (#deadline for the domain).
I am currently unable to keep up this #mastodon instance and have made the descision to shut it down and move my own account back to @codixer

But this maybe only prevents people from browsing your followers, while still showing the total?
I've definitely seen people with "0 followers", so maybe other platforms have this option?

Wow, I haven't been on the bird site since I joined Masto, but it's interesting to see the contrast in reaction to a WWDC:
On the bird site, it was all excitement, astonishment and joy. There were a _few_ angry posts, and the odd Windows person not understanding anything, but the general mood was positive.
Contrast that to Mastodon, and it's the complete opposite. A lot of distrust, disappointment and most people saying "go to Linux".
