The Gorge (2025) is a mix of three movie genres, it mixes the three well, but only one works well.

The first hour of the movie is really great and is the part I enjoyed the most -- this is the part of the movie where the relationship develops between the two main characters.

The second half of the movie is less successful.

The Gorge was a good way to spend two hours.

Rated 6 out of 10.

I wrote more about the movie here:

Since The Associated Press, in contrast to Google and Apple, continues to call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of Mexico, I just made a donation as a thank you gesture.

This guy has some really good points about trends that need to stop. Here are the ones that resonated with me:

Stop rigging out a camera beyond what's necessary.

Stop with the gear and spec obsession.

Don't be fooled by Apple's "You only need an iPhone" hype.

Stop with the overuse of drones.

Stop holding the damned lav mics in your hand.

Stop with the manual focus snobbery.

This Anker battery is rather thirsty. It’s plugged into an Apple 140W charger.

The UK Home Office (interior ministry) appears to have forgotten entirely about the "independent" Technical Advisory Board #TAB whose advice it legally must take when #Apple appeals its secret order ("Technical Capability Notice” leaked to the Washington Post) to compromise #iPhone/ #ADP security worldwide to enable future surveillance by the UK 🤡🤡

♻️ Here we go again!

As Jeff Bezos' newspaper¹ reports, the #UK government is trying to force #Apple to give them unrestricted access to cloud backups 🤢

Definitely important to 2nd guess what you store in the #cloud! ☁️

If Apple complies with this, the UK government will gain access to all iCloud data globally. The only way Apple comes out of this with any integrity is to leave the UK market. If they give in to this, every regime in the world will demand the same thing. And that’s before we even get to the fact that there’s no such thing as a “backdoor” for just so-and-so. Either there is a door or there isn’t and if there is, anyone who obtains the key can use it.

The cloud will never be private. Self-hosting storage maybe the better way, but not the easiest way for most people.

You remember #Apple scanning all images on your #mobile device?

If you have an #Android #phone, a new app that doesn't appear in your menu has been automatically and silently installed (or soon will be) by #Google. It is called #AndroidSystemSafetyCore and does exactly the same - scan all images on your device as well as all incoming ones (via messaging). The new spin is that it does so "to protect your #privacy".

You can uninstall this app safely via System -> Apps.

developers.google.com/android/…

A reminder to my #MAC friends. Make certain your #privacy is locked down as best as possible and that starts with ensuring Apple Intelligence is disabled. First go to #Apple Intelligence & Siri when you open System Setting and ensure it is disabled in addition to visiting Privacy & Security and ensuring the Apple Intelligence Report is disabled. Screenshots included. #AppleIntelligence #CyberSecurity

I usually don't watch horror films (I'm a scaredy cat), but I am a fan of Maika Monroe. I picked up Longlegs last night for $8 on Apple TV, a nice sale price that I couldn't refuse. I will watch this for the first time this weekend.

Sneakers is also on sale for $4. Such a great movie if you haven't seen it before.

Seatec Astronomy.

The Passwords app now categorizes the network requests to download the icons as "websites visited in app" and this way the number of requests sent isn't included in the main count in the #privacy report.

This new categorization makes the requests less visible to privacy-conscious as the app won't show spikes of 130+ requests as we demonstrated before in iOS 18 and iOS 18.2. However the app is clearly making those requests directly as shown in the network traffic.

Really not digging Apple adding another #DarkPattern without user consent.

How is this even legal in EU under GDPR?

Settings option to Learn from this App is active by default. I was never asked to consent.

The only way of opting out is manually disabling the setting for every 👏🏻 single 👏🏻 app 👏🏻 you run on your iOS device.

Apple will say this is all on device. But if I see no benefit, why even opt-in. And coupled with #AppleIntelligence this becomes a lot more complicated. I don't want my app usage analyzed whatsoever.

Ryan Chenkie:

Developers, please be careful when installing Homebrew. Google is serving sponsored links to a Homebrew site clone that has a cURL command to malware. The URL for this site is one letter different than the official site.

Note: Google allows the ad sponsors to specify an URL that will be displayed on the ad (original brew.sh here), but the click takes you to the malware domain brewe.sh.

Consider this: The #EU has just won 2 court cases against big tech. Yet these do not get continuous MSM attention. The USA banning #TikTok is wall-to-wall even here in Europe. We need to celebrate our wins more, not obsess about USA (frankly) incompetence.
