The Gorge (2025) is a mix of three movie genres, it mixes the three well, but only one works well.
The first hour of the movie is really great and is the part I enjoyed the most -- this is the part of the movie where the relationship develops between the two main characters.
The second half of the movie is less successful.
The Gorge was a good way to spend two hours.
Rated 6 out of 10.
I wrote more about the movie here:

Back in the late 2000s, I was a major contributor to the Wii homebrew scene. At the time, I worked on software (people call them “jailbreaks” these days) to allow users to run their own unofficial apps on the Nintendo Wii.marcan.st

This guy has some really good points about trends that need to stop. Here are the ones that resonated with me:
Stop rigging out a camera beyond what's necessary.
Stop with the gear and spec obsession.
Don't be fooled by Apple's "You only need an iPhone" hype.
Stop with the overuse of drones.
Stop holding the damned lav mics in your hand.
Stop with the manual focus snobbery.

Apple: British techies to advise on “devastating” UK global crypto power grab

If Apple complies with this, the UK government will gain access to all iCloud data globally. The only way Apple comes out of this with any integrity is to leave the UK market. If they give in to this, every regime in the world will demand the same thing. And that’s before we even get to the fact that there’s no such thing as a “backdoor” for just so-and-so. Either there is a door or there isn’t and if there is, anyone who obtains the key can use it.

You remember #Apple scanning all images on your #mobile device?
If you have an #Android #phone, a new app that doesn't appear in your menu has been automatically and silently installed (or soon will be) by #Google. It is called #AndroidSystemSafetyCore and does exactly the same - scan all images on your device as well as all incoming ones (via messaging). The new spin is that it does so "to protect your #privacy".
You can uninstall this app safely via System -> Apps.

I usually don't watch horror films (I'm a scaredy cat), but I am a fan of Maika Monroe. I picked up Longlegs last night for $8 on Apple TV, a nice sale price that I couldn't refuse. I will watch this for the first time this weekend.
Sneakers is also on sale for $4. Such a great movie if you haven't seen it before.

The Passwords app now categorizes the network requests to download the icons as "websites visited in app" and this way the number of requests sent isn't included in the main count in the #privacy report.
This new categorization makes the requests less visible to privacy-conscious as the app won't show spikes of 130+ requests as we demonstrated before in iOS 18 and iOS 18.2. However the app is clearly making those requests directly as shown in the network traffic.
Really not digging Apple adding another #DarkPattern without user consent.
How is this even legal in EU under GDPR?
Settings option to Learn from this App
is active by default. I was never asked to consent.
The only way of opting out is manually disabling the setting for every 👏🏻 single 👏🏻 app 👏🏻 you run on your iOS device.
Apple will say this is all on device. But if I see no benefit, why even opt-in. And coupled with #AppleIntelligence this becomes a lot more complicated. I don't want my app usage analyzed whatsoever.

Developers, please be careful when installing Homebrew. Google is serving sponsored links to a Homebrew site clone that has a cURL command to malware. The URL for this site is one letter different than the official site.
Note: Google allows the ad sponsors to specify an URL that will be displayed on the ad (original brew.sh
here), but the click takes you to the malware domain brewe.sh

Consider this: The #EU has just won 2 court cases against big tech. Yet these do not get continuous MSM attention. The USA banning #TikTok is wall-to-wall even here in Europe. We need to celebrate our wins more, not obsess about USA (frankly) incompetence.
