Well, it's unfortunate, but I don't really have any hope that BridgyFed will work all the way through Threads....
A few threads employees interacted with me several times today. Yet, whenever I directly asked about if it was being considered, I got nothing.
So....unless I'm pleasantly surprised down the road, I'm not gonna hold out hope on that wish.😔

#Fediverse does anyone know if #BridgyFed might allow #Diaspora protocol to bridge to #ActivityPub?
🤷♂️
Ya know....I've been on Threads for a little bit now and experienced some interesting things.
Mastodon devs claim that they're taking so long to do Quote Posts because it's "not as simple as posting a link, like these third party apps are doing, its actually quite complex".
And here Threads is, doing exactly that. You post a Threads link into a post, it becomes a quote post....🤔
Is there some weird trickery behind the scenes going on that I'm not aware that is happening or....is it really that easy? I do feel like I'm being fooled by Threads.

Encrypted DMs Are Coming to ActivityPub
The prospect of making the Fediverse more secure is an ongoing topic, with a number of developers, privacy advocates, and user communities weighing in on how to do it. On Tuesday evening, ActivityPubAnuj Ahooja (We Distribute)
Well, that's 3 Threads employees that are aware of BridgyFed.
That leaves a bit of hope for the future of social media interconnectivity! Even if we can't trust that that they're down to use it, it's a hope...😅

Hello Bluesky, this is me posting from Mastodon. 👋 Bridgy.fed is finally live.
Interesting question I never thought to wonder about:
If I add a username in Alt-Text, is that person still notified?🤔🤣that'd be ridiculous, but I'm on mastodon, where they expect admins to manually moderate hundreds of thousands of posts. So here we are, I'm asking.
Edit: Nope! Thankfully it does not notify the person!

Well, if they weren't before, Threads is now officially "Aware"😏 of BridgyFed. @pcottle just liked my post about it over there.
Can't help but wonder if the bridge will work all the way through...🤔🤨

This BlueSky bridge IS exciting. However, due to the ignorance of the "opt-in" brigade, I feel it'll be pretty much dead in the water besides with a select niche crowd.
Just like Threads, having to opt-in on an opt-out protocol is killing the usability of such good integrations.
This is why I keep thinking that Fedi won't get popular. Bad implementations like this, specifically wanted by ignorant users, will go unused.🤦♂️🙄

Hmmm...my original posts don't seem to be federating to BlueSky, as of yet...only posts in which i'm mentioning another bridge user...
Maybe there's a kink in the system. I'm sure it'll get straightened out. First steps are always the rockiest.
Edit: Scratch that! This post is on BlueSky! Leaving this up so that it stays up there!🥳🥳🥳

For those unaware, the BlueSky-Fediverse bridge is LIVE and seems to be federating profiles who "opt-in" to BlueSky.
If you want to opt-in, you just have to follow @bsky.brid.gy and then if you have a BlueSky account, you can login and find your account by using the format @user.domain.ap.brid.gy, so mine is @BeAware.social.beaware.live.ap.brid.gy
This is SUPER exciting! Bridging open protocols is a super cool thing and I'm so happy to test out this super cool project!
Edit: more info after further investigation. Notifications from BlueSky users only work if they have activated the bridge on their side...this is less than stellar, but hopefully this changes?😳
Also, to find a BlueSky user that HAS opted into the bridge, their Bluesky account will appear in the fediverse as @[handle]@bsky.brid.gy. For example, @snarfed.bsky.social on Bluesky is bridged into the fediverse as @snarfed.bsky.social (sorry for the notification, Ryan. Hope you don't get spammed😬)

In the latest episode of #DotSocial I interview @snarfed.org, a passionate bridge builder with a focus on connecting people across the open web and the #fediverse. His latest work, #BridgyFed, connects #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol resulting in excitement, critique and *lots* of discussion.
Ryan and I talk about the parallel communities on #Mastodon and #Bluesky, their shared desire to create an open social web and the pros and cons of their underlying protocols, #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol. Can or should these be bridged? If so, how? As whole new communities continue to join the fediverse, how should the user experience evolve?

#activitypub is just a code that connect different things, it’s not a help group nor every user of that code have to behave like a support group person. I don’t have to listen to the concerns of anyone I don’t know why you think that way. Go for a hour using this code that have similar interest and between yourself and them then ask if the want to listen to other people arguments. Asking anyone else is so weird and out of place.
As much as I feel it's a useless endeavor, I'm back to advocating for Fedi on Threads, just to spite those unknowledgeable fools who think there should be an un-federated, Fediverse app...I have a headache just typing that...😬🤦♂️
#Fedi #Fediverse #ActivityPub #Threads #Meta
There are actually people that are asking for an un-federated, Fediverse platform....
And they don't see how ridiculous this is!
These types of platforms have been around for decades! They're called forums and they don't have federation at all!
FediTip of the day:
If you're new, you might want to post an #introduction post littered with hashtags that are related to your interests.
A lot of people browse that hashtag to find new users and help them along.
A lot of instances don't allow full text search, therefore hashtags are their only way of seeing your posts.
If you're still using Substack for your newsletter and want to migrate to Ghost, which has announced that it will join the fediverse this year, here's a step-by-step guide by @wes. FediTip of the day:
If your profile and posts are set to "public" and you can read this very post, you should have no sense of "privacy" here on Fedi. That means ANYONE can reply.
There's 20,000+ instances and new ones every day, there's NO WAY to tell who is accessing your posts or what they're doing with them.
Fediverse is not some kinda "bastion for privacy" nor is there any sort of "consent" required to see your posts if they are public.
The only way you can be 100% sure that your followers are the only ones that directly see your posts is to make your profile and posts private. Even then, screenshots exist.
Remember, you're on the internet. Once you post it, it's probably not going away. This is true everywhere.

I have lost SO many brain cells today by browsing the Fediverse tag.
I wonder how many of you work full-time for absolutely nothing and how do you do that?
Oh wait....that's 0.
Exactly 0 of you work full-time without pay, so why do you expect someone else to do that with a family to support?
That's asinine and ridiculous.
Mastodon devs have PLENTY to be criticized about. However, wanting to get paid for doing their jobs isn't one of them.🤦♂️
I'm so glad that there are leaders of this space that don't care what the lot of you dumbasses think, cause Fedi would fail if it was up to y'all.
New: Last Week in #Fediverse - ep 66
This week's news:
- The EU Voice pilot that hosted Mastodon and Peertube instance for the EU over the last 2 years will come to an end. The @EU_Commission account will continue to be active and grow their Mastodon presence.
- Ghost announces a major push for fediverse support, adding #Activitypub to their posts and building an ActivityPub powered news reader app.
- Mastodon starts a US-based nonprofit.

Last Week in Fediverse – ep 66
The EU pilot for the fediverse comes to an end, but the European Commission will stay on the fediverse; Ghost announces that they will support ActivityPub and build a fediverse news reading client, and Mastodon creates a U.S.-based non-profit.fediversereport.com
I gotta say, I never seen people HATE the platform they're on and don't want it to succeed as much as Fedi users hate Fedi.
It's kinda weird. Ngl. There's even an account with 200k+ followers called Fedi.Tips spreading hate towards Fedi possibly succeeding. It's wild.
I fear for the platform's future because of its userbase and that's not something I'd ever think I would say.

Building ActivityPub
Ghost is federating over ActivityPub to become part of the world’s largest publishing network.Building ActivityPub
It seems as if you are migrating from #Mastodon towards another platform.
Which #Fediverse option are you considering‽ #WordPress with the #ActivityPub plugin enabled‽
Depending on the host, that would be a less expensive option.
#Fedify is an #ActivityPub server framework in #TypeScript & #JavaScript. It aims to eliminate the complexity and redundant boilerplate code when building a federated server app, so that you can focus on your business logic and user experience.
The key features it provides currently are:
• Type-safe objects for Activity Vocabulary (including some vendor-specific extensions)
• #WebFinger client and server
• HTTP Signatures
• Middleware for handling webhooks
• #NodeInfo protocol
• #Node.js, #Deno, and #Bun support
If you're curious, take a look at the Fedify website! There's comprehensive docs, a demo, a tutorial, example code, and more:
