Large forest fires break out in Canada

The fire covered about 21 thousand hectares. Due to the approach of the fire to populated areas near the city of Fort McMurray, the evacuation of more than 6 thousand local residents has been announced, CBC News reports.

70 firefighters and 14 helicopters were involved in extinguishing the fire.

Northwestel, which provides telecommunications for the #Yukon, Northwest Territories, #Nunavut and northern #BritishColumbia announced on Friday that a wildfire had damaged a critical fibre optic cable near the town of #FortNelson. The company said it had also lost its redundancy cable due to a separate wildfire burning near Jean Marie River and #Kakisa in the Northwest Territories.
