One of my favourite features of @MonaApp, especially whilst being on a small instance, is the ability to load a post from the remote server to see what the actual Like and Repost counts are, as well as showing all of the replies.

"AI" alt text is notoriously unreliable and can't give context, so even when it isn't wrong, it's still not helpful: "Appears to be: Taika Waititi" makes no sense when my name is Laura and you don't know who Taika is or that my picture is from a TV show. If fedi had let *me* describe the pic, this wouldn't have been an issue, but as it is, @fastfinge was understandably confused!

Hetzner Considered Hostile: A PSA
"On 8 October 2024 I received an email from Hetzner. This was a forwarded abuse report. As is standard practice in the web hosting business Hetzner forwarded this to me so I could take action on it.
This was no ordinary abuse report. This was targeted harassment from a threat actor that has been harassing me and my friends for a long time. Now they have started targeting Ten Forward itself in an attempt to cause disruption in the day to day operations of Ten Forward."

mastodon.social is hosted by Hetzner. Now there is certainly plenty of so-called pornographic material on mastodon.social.
I've been informed that this is a Germany thing and all hosting providers in Germany are like this.
So if you are hosting your fediverse instance on a German hosting provider, consider it a hostile environment.

I have another gripe to add about the demise of the blue bird app: not being able to follow astronauts anymore.
I remember in the days of Twitter 1.0 I was following lots of astronauts and it was so thrilling to read their messages: from Samantha Cristoforetti, to Leland Melvin, Tim Peake, Chris Hadfield, Mae Jemison...
I see that many are still active on X (whyyyy?!?) while others have stopped microblogging altogether.
I'm impossibly sad about this. Let's get astronauts on the #Fediverse!
