Pixelfed Groups even supports #polls and #events
This opens up so many more federation possibilities 😍

"#ActivityPods is a combination of two #W3C standards: #ActivityPub, and the #Solid specification. The first standard is for data federation and networks, the second is for data storage and access. The ideals of both projects put together create a compelling vision: data control, across user applications, in service to communication across the web."

The #ActivityPub ecosystem is evolving at a rapid pace. One project, #ActivityPods, is making an ambitious effort to combine the Fediverse with the power of #Solid.

Threads is the largest player so far to adopt #ActivityPub, and as @mike says, “The implications are huge.”
Why is Threads doing this? How is the team working with the community? How are they thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward?
In the newest episode of @dot_social, Mike digs in with @rklambo, Director of Product Management, and @pcottle, Software Engineer. Check it out in the fediverse on PeerTube or wherever you like to listen to podcasts. More details here:

The blogging platform #Ghost is working on adding #ActivityPub integration. That means, among other things, being able to follow Ghost-powered blogs and comment on articles right from your Mastodon account. The website they made to explain their plans is really nice! This is what momentum looks like.

Only now realizing there's and open source alternative Ghost that's like Substack. And there's some talk about Ghost joining ActivityPub. I think if it happens it will be nice, even if I was not even know it existed up until today.

And here it is, the dark pattern at work....this threads integration is starting to go badly already....🤦♂️🙄
edit: and here's a threads engineer purposefully misconstruing the definition of dark patterns in a reply to me. https://social.beaware.live/@beaware.live@threads.net/112312317899201996 🤬

Still in development, but got #ActivityPub replies working! Once it goes live, replies from the fediverse will show up on Remark.as.
Last major issue is to add some basic moderation. Already got instance-level blocking done so I can easily defederate from bad servers, but want to make sure we can handle any potential abuse from individual users too.

So none of you thinks the Threads / Activity Pub thing will have an impact?
My personal opinion is that its a strategic move to avoid regulation by being able to claim they are open.

I know you can’t read this yet on #threads but federating a existing service is not that complicated.
The #activitypub specification allows you to implement things in an incremental way.
I worked in federation of our #flipboard network.
Federating #ghost can’t be that complicated.

Having said that, I think that #ActivityPub has far more adoption today than Nostr and that is only going to accelerate as more networks federate in the coming months. While Nostr has a lot of interesting ideas we can learn from, it is also quite arcane and requires an encryption key just to use it. That sets up a hard stop for non-technical people (i.e. mainstream audiences) to ever adopt it.
End-to-End Encrypted Messages Over ActivityPub
One important pattern in social networking is end-to-end encryption for direct messages. This is a structure in which the native or Web clients encrypt the message on the user’s device, and n…Evan Prodromou's Blog

Post from @rabble on why he's chosen to use #Nostr and not #ActivityPub and the #Fediverse. He makes some compelling points. Personally I am not too worried about the server admin parts of his argument (I have enough control, even if I don't control the server), but I agree that this isn't ideal:
"You can’t use a single fediverse identity with your profile and followers in Peertube, Mobilizon, WriteFreely, and Pixelfed. You need a totally separate account in each one."

In December, we started to federate the accounts of some Flipboard publishers and in February, we introduced Magazines to the fediverse. Now, we’re taking two important steps: federating the accounts of 400 creators and expert curators; and enabling two-way communication so that new followers and fediverse activity are visible and actionable in the Flipboard app.
To learn more about this, take a look at our blogpost:
Find all the handles of our newly federated curators here:

Thanks so much to everyone who has given feedback on what we’ve done so far. We welcome your thoughts and comments as we continue on our journey to fully federate Flipboard.

Social bookmarking is a novel use case for #ActivityPub and I’m super excited about it. I heckin’ love links and lists! I wanna use them for everything.
Things like #Bookwyrm are cool, but it’s not what I want. I just wanna link the thing. Books, films, podcasts, articles, songs.., they’re all just resource recommendations which can be encapsulated by links.

Last month, Meta's Threads took its first step into the fediverse. @quillmatiq@mastodon.social, aka @quillmatiq@threads.net took that as his cue to experiment with how his Threads feed would look like on Mastodon. Here's what he discovered about organizing the chaos, different clients (hello @phanpy) and whether he'll cut the Threads cord when federation is complete.
