Pika are so cool. And they like it cool. Sadly, climate change is causing them to climb ever higher up their mountains, & in some areas, the mountains are no longer high enough. Pika don't hibernate. They live in their little caves under talus & scree, munch on the haystacks they built over the summer, beneath tons of snow. And they make the cutest call, "Eeeep!"

A male Centrocercus urophasianus (greater sage-grouse) at dawn trying to attract a female at a mating lek. They are known for filling giant air sacks in their chests and letting out a low thumping noise. They also strut around while doing the thumping call / display. It's kind of cute, in a strange way. They are extremely sensitive birds and you can't get very close without spooking them. This photo is cropped way in.

Welp, I captured two shots of the tonight's big solar storm. The most intense part of the storm happened at my location before the sunset. The first shot below was shortly after sunset at Sand Mountain from a bit of a distance. It's an offroader's sand dune recreation area & it's $40 to go in. đŸ«€ And the second shot was at Harmon Reservoir a couple miles east of Fallon, Nevada. Nice to see some color this far south! 😍
