Noyb filed a GDPR complaint against Mozilla for quietly enabling a supposed “privacy feature” (called Privacy Preserving Attribution) in its Firefox browser

The complaint is good. But since this exists already since version 128.0.0 it would be helpful to tell the people how they can disable it:
1. Click the menu button and select Settings.
2. In the Privacy & Security panel, find the Website Advertising Preferences section.
3. Uncheck the box labeled "Allow websites to perform privacy-preserving ad measurement".
After disabling it, it stays disabled for further versions.

There are two open source web browser projects that have their own Mastodon instances.

Unfortunately, Mozilla has decided to shutdown their Mastodon instance by the end of the year.
https://mozilla.social/

But Vivaldi Web Browser has confirmed that they will keep maintaining their Mastodon instance.

I've been a #Firefox user FOREVER. But with the direction of the recent Mozilla leadership, plus their treatment of @stevetex has pushed me over to moving to @Vivaldi

Sad, sad day. But they crossed enough lines that it's time. And @jon has been a strong advocate for the fediverse and the open web. #Vivaldi

@jcrabapple At least for now, Firefox seems to be holding up somehow. Despite I can see some bad news, it's still fast even with over a hundred tabs open. #Firefox

We’ve made the hard decision to end our experiment with Mozilla.social and will shut down the Mastodon instance on December 17, 2024. Thank you for being part of the Mozilla.social community and providing feedback during our closed beta. You can continue to use Mozilla.social until December 17. Before that date, you can download your data here (https://mozilla.social/settings/export), and migrate your account to another instance following these instructions (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-social-faq).

How to Bypass Copy/Paste Restrictions in Firefox

Native support for ed25519/x25519 in the browser would be a huge step forward for in-browser/client-side cryptography.

Looks like Google is holding up our ability to use it in production.

(Firefox and Safari both have support enabled by default.)

So... #Signal and #Wire, which both have issues, but not #Matrix / #XMPP? And for video, 2 #YouTube front ends and a proprietary YouTube clone, but no direct mention of #Peertube? And for Translation, the proprietary #Deepl, but no mention of the local and #Privacy respecting #Firefox #translate

I appreciate the intent of this post, but the research is... outdated at best.

Are you sick and tired of websites, especially technical ones that have complicated commands or code snippets, preventing you from copy/paste? Here's a fix that website owners HATE!

Open Firefox (because you shouldn't be using anything else), and in the Awesomebar, type in "about:config" and press enter. Accept the warning. Search for the option "dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled" and set that sucker to FALSE.

Take back the web!

#OrangePi Now has an #OpenSource #RISC-V SBC [With M.2 Slot]

source: https://news.itsfoss.com/orange-pi-rv/

TL;DR: The #CPU is too weak for a #desktop system. Without #HDMI, there are much cheaper IoT RISC-V systems.

The RISC-V chip it uses is the same one as found on the #Milk-V Mars, with Orange Pi pointing out that it can run Linux distributions, pointing to #Debian #Linux on its download page.

With Milk-V Mars, starting #Firefox takes 20 seconds under Debian. Nobody really wants to work with this #performance. You could certainly shorten the time with a very lightweight customized Linux, but it is questionable whether these adjustments will be made.

What's better is that #PCIe is on the underside, unlike the Mars, and the #Wifi is onboard.

enter image description here

If you are looking for a pure IoT solution without HDMI, the Milk-V Duo S is a much cheaper hardware that runs under Linux.

Knowing I can run multiple versions of the same website but be logged in with different accounts is such a game changer, loved it in Firefox and Zen just does it that little better.
