Just saw in a random discord from a few months ago that certain Fediverse softwares don't federate "Trending".....but NO Fediverse software federates "Trending", it's all propagated with posts from users that people on your instance follow. That's how it is for EVERY software that I've used so far.
If an instance doesn't know about an account posting with a specific hashtag, then it can't trend, now can it?π§Just sayin....
Also, apparently users can't change their password....π³
That's a completely different issue and for that I don't even know where to start....π¬π©

Been having a strange issue on the new Sharkey instance.
I have object storage on and it's going through my domain through cloudflare. However, sometimes the uploaded media goes to the media.thesocial.zone/proxy and sometimes it goes to media.thesocialzone/file/<bucket>. I believe the 2nd one is correct but I'm not sure why it's going to a proxy folder. Could this be because I have the "proxy" setting on cloudflare for the object storage and I should turn that off? π€π¬
If anyone knows anything and can offer advice, please let me know.
Well...it's mostly done! Just took my next big step in the Fediverse and opened a new instance! We're running Sharkey and it's going to be invites only for now.
The goal of The Social Zone is for people to have a safe space away from the VERY political climate we currently live in to just be social with one another. All the usual rules, of course. No hate speech, bigotry, CSAM, loli content, etc.
AI content allowed as long as it's tagged. (which most are).
I hope to one day feel comfortable enough to open registrations to allow approval. However, since this is a new instance and I'm REALLY new to Sharkey and having other users on the same instance, I want time to make sure to get this right.

Anyone have any idea what could cause federated instances to *not* pull in profile pics and headers?
I am running a separate Sharkey (Misskey fork) instance and there's a few examples of this happening.
I have CDN with Cloudflare and that seems to work. The "remote caching" feature on Sharkey is turned off. I DO have Authorized Fetch on (maybe this is the issue?) However, both my instance and another instance have issues pulling icons and headers both ways (Mine doesn't show up on certain instances either)
Most of the stuff that I talked about here, I've just done today, so it COULD be that it just needs time to update, but I am unsure right now.

And this is why I currently love AI....I took the Oliphant's Unified Tier 0 Blocklist CSV and ChatGPT gave me the list of domains within so I can import it into Misskey/Sharkey.
I'd post it here, but Mastodon doesn't let you upload files that aren't "media".π€·ββοΈ

I consider most of everything I do here "fun". Today and yesterday, I haven't been posting all that much because I haven't been doing "fun", I've been doing "work" with LOTS of assistance from @ozzy (hes done most of it, I am just doing what he says basically). Hopefully with my vision and goals along with his knowledge and help, I'm doing something that will be considered admirable in the long run.
Though, just because it's been a bit stressful with errors and such, "work" on Fedi is no less exciting than "fun" on Fedi, I assure you that.
Progress.
Bright days ahead and I am mostly alone for the rest. (It's easy, just time consuming)

Ugh. I am SO jelly of android today after spending a bit of time with #Megalodon, it's very robust and has some pretty neat features.

If I see you do this and you're in my circle, I'll most definitely block you when I notice. People that browse hashtags don't deserve to be spammed with irrelevant posts.π
Well, I FINALLY figured out what happened to the dozen or so followers I lost earlier in the week.
Basically, I was in the process of running a specific command on my instance to remove any "dead/deleted" accounts from other instances that I was still hanging onto their "ghost profiles". Since I have a few followers that enjoy migrating quite a bit, the command cleared those deleted accounts out of the system, removing them from my follower count.
Therefore, nothing was lost and I didn't "do anything" to force anyone to want to unfollow me.
WHEW! I REALLY thought I'd done something to piss off a dozen folks at the same time.
Glad to see that's not the case.
Tagging some Fedi/Admin tags just in case something like this happens to anyone else and they are dumbfounded.

Nevertheless, if you didn't know about it, you know now. Knowing what you know now, do you feel you were a BIT heavy handed regarding BridgyFed and the absolute ridiculous harassment of it's developer? And do you realize now, that there's MUCH worse things here than a bridge to BlueSky and your knowledge of ActivityPub and how it works were previously incorrect?

I feel terrible for the Mastodon admins that feel they are stuck with this project and have to do "manual" moderation for thousands of users across 23,000 instances and hundreds of thousands of posts a day....π€¦ββοΈ
