I know most people here don't need to hear this, so maybe just pass this along to your less techy friends and family members, but: please, do not go to ChatGPT for medical advice.

"For example, in response to telling it about a fictional pain in my right side, it cited the guardrail and suggested relaxation techniques, but ultimately took me through a series of possible causes that escalated in severity."

The Romans were innovators who created a type of early machine gun. The polybolus, was ahead of its time. It was capable of firing multiple metal tipped bolt projectiles in quick succession. Now the walls of Pompeii have been found to bear scars which are probably a result of this machine. Besieged by general Lucius Cornelius Sulla in 89 BCE during the Social Wars. There are also accounts of the machine from 3rd century BCE. popsci.com/science/ancient-rom…

Remember the cyberattacks on the U.S. government in the early 2020s? The Biden admin asked tech companies to help and got some “free” upgrades.

The Trump admin is doing similarly with AI. But our reporting shows there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

Google Now Allows Users to Change Their Embarrassing Email Address. What to Know

Gmail has good news for anyone who regrets their email address.

For the first time in the platform's 22-year history, account holders now have the ability to change their Gmail address name. Previously, Gmail users who wanted to do so had to create a brand new account.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared the announcement in a post on X.

"2004 was a good year, but your Gmail address doesn’t need to be stuck in it. To say goodbye to v0t3f0rp3dr02004@gmail.com or mrbrightside416@gmail.com (or whatever you were into at the time), go to your Google Account settings and choose any name available. You’ll keep your old username and you can sign in with both," he said.

Who Is the Observer? Rethinking Relativity and Quantum Theory

Who is the observer?

In relativity, the observer is treated as relative — velocity and time depend on the frame from which they are measured.

In quantum theory, however, the definition of the observer is far less clear: is it a measuring device, a human, the brain, or consciousness itself? There are multiple interpretations.

Here is an attempt to introduce a completely new definition of the observer — one that may offer a way to conceptually bridge relativity and quantum theory.

What do you think about this approach?

It’s summarized in a short 7-minute video, so I’d really appreciate your thoughts after watching:

I’m also curious how this might be seen from a technology or systems perspective.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Tech Learning Collective? Alternatives, Or Are Workshops/Classes Still Available?

Hello,

I recently came across the Tech Learning Collective, but found they have no currently scheduled workshops and classes are postponed.

Is there anything similar to their work, or is anyone familiar with TLC still having workshops or something somewhere?

I just got really excited about the prospect and then found they were sort of hibernating, save for some blog posts it seems.

Thank you.

What an amazing view of Earth from Artemis II.

The Sun is behind the Earth, illuminating a thin crescent. This low-light shot, taken by Reid Wiseman using a Nikon D5, shows auroras over the poles, city lights, and the glow of the atmosphere.

And yes, there are stars!

Artemis II astronaut finds two Outlook instances running on computers, call on Houston to fix Microsoft anomaly — puzzled caller describes ‘two Outlooks, and neither one of those are working’

Space watchers enthralled by the live stream from NASA’s Artemis II Orion spacecraft have noticed that even astronauts can have trouble with Microsoft software. BlueSkyer Niki Grayson clipped an amusing segment of the live stream, where a puzzled astronaut asks for support from Mission Control because they “have two Microsoft Outlooks, and neither one of those are working.”

Grayson was agog at NASA inflicting Outlook on astronauts. “I'm so sorry we've sent these souls to the moon and they're using Outlook?” they quipped.
