Meta said Thursday it plans to lay off roughly 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 people, the latest in a string of #tech industry #layoffs fueled in part by #ArtificialIntelligence.
The company is also closing around 6,000 open roles, Janelle Gale, Meta’s chief people officer, wrote in a memo published by Bloomberg.
The layoffs will go into effect on May 20.

"...to help workers feel connected" - yeah, not even a little; absolutely NOBODY will come away from this with any other feeling than the exact opposite.
This is the world's most expensive way of telling your employees to go fuck themselves.
One can only hope the board starts to wonder why they need to pay the real Zuck for a job he isn't doing.

For alternatives, I'm using Mastodon, Pixelfed and Bluesky (Probably not much longer).
