The company #Meta recently released #Llama 3.1, an #AI model they claim is "open source".
This is false. Llama 3.1 is NOT open source.
They released it under a license which under 1.b.iv. demands you agree to an "acceptable use policy" which basically forbids using it in any way they don't like. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/meta-llama/llama-models/main/models/llama3_1/LICENSE

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram and Threads about the integration to the Fediverse:
"So everything has become at least three, if not six, or seven times more difficult than we thought. But we're committed to it, and we're making progress. We have some announcements coming soon. We just gotta get the basics out. You’ve got to be able to not only post to the fediverse, but to get your replies in the app. Ideally, you should be able to follow accounts from the fediverse in Threads, not just follow Threads accounts on Mastodon servers or clients. So there's still plenty of work to do. But I do believe the world is going to become more open over time. And we should lean into that. And if it takes time, it takes time."

"Some instances are already blocking #Threads, and if #Meta becomes too much of a problem, then others would likely do so as well.
And while some had predicted that Meta would never actually embrace Threads, it keeps turning on more functionality, bit by bit. The latest functionality is that users on Threads can now see likes and replies from the wider #Fediverse."
