A moody, slightly green tinged monochrome photo taking on a very foggy day at Point Reyes National Park. The picture shows leafless branches of something that is no longer growing. The branches are silhouetted against the foggy sky and chaparral. In the distance, there is a hint of a hillside but it is mostly hidden in the fog. And in the foreground there are a couple of white gleaming spots - tiny flowers in an otherwise dark foreground. If I was a gardener, this is how my garden would look: like something out of The Addams Family. I am more Morticia Addams than Martha Stewart.

A dark scene on a very foggy morning at Point Reyes National Park. It's a picture of a small passenger car, with headlights on, driving in the middle of an asphalt, two lane road. The car somewhat straddles the lane marker in the center of the road, carefully avoiding the road edges because you never know when a deadly animal might leap out and attack. Okay I made that last part up. But what I didn't make up is the car is coming out of a heavy bank of fog and heading straight for me. Also, there are no trees... just small native bushes and weeds on either side of the road - the typical chaparral of this portion of the California coast. Monochromey - slightly bluish and brownish dual tone but otherwise colorless - with limited dynamic range. There are no bright spots except for the car headlights. The sun would not come out for another 3 hours.

Yes, it's Sunday and I am pretending to be Ansel Adams. This outhouse is my Half Dome. Taken on a foggy morning at an ungodly hour, this sturdy, nearly featureless concrete building stands in profile in a field of brush and scrubby weeds underneath unrelenting gray skies. With two tiny windows, a slightly pitched roof, and two vent pipes / chimneys, this is a building without cheer, set in a landscape of bleakness and cold. The despair is evident. There is no cell phone reception and the nearest coffeeshop is 15 miles away. Monochrome.
