Theater District, Manhattan - 7th Avenue at 53rd Street

Itโ€™s wild to see a 10+ block view clear of traffic south to Times Square. The protest march is right behind me. Thousands of people are watching and joining the route from side streets.

Picture of me taken with Mabel earlier this week. I spend 90% of my life laying down due to my poor health, sitting in my wheelchair is a victory and is often used to attend medical appointments. However once a week I do take photos of my local area, western Dartmoor. Itโ€™s my defiance against my illness, I know Iโ€™m going to be in pain and I do it anyway. Aerial Stare

This redโ€‘tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) passed nearby but high overhead. I wanted to catch a shot at the maximum focal length of my setup, but there just wasnโ€™t enough time. The challenge with long focal lengths is that the closer they bring the subject, the narrower the field of view becomesโ€”so actually finding and locking onto a flying bird gets a lot harder.

So this image was taken at the minimum focal length of my rig, 280mm. Itโ€™s not quite as crisp as I like, but honestly, itโ€™s hard to complain when a hawk is staring straight back at you.

Friday was the Vernal Equinox and as if on cue, this cottontail swamp #rabbit made an appearance in our backyard that morning. I take it as a harbinger of #spring. Itโ€™s squeezing in through a gap under the fence to eat the dried corn that the squirrels drop. I usually leave the naming of wild animal visitors (if we must) to others in this household, but they suggested Bugsy. I prefer BOB as in Big Olโ€™ Bunny.

A picture of some kind of tiny purple flower on a plant that is mostly green branching stem that probably had a lot more flowers at some points in the recent past. The few flowers that remain on the top are delicate, like the wings of a crane fly. I think the plant needs some water. Gosh that all sounds amazing ๐Ÿ™„ Just reading it makes me want to take more pictures. Unfortunately, my computer is dying so picture processing is iffy for the next couple of months. I just spent two days backing everything up in case things crash and burn permanently. The new computer will take 8 weeks to get here so fingers crossed everything stays okay between now and then.

Ravenna Creek meanders through the woods, with a curve bordered by mossy rocks. The moss is so bright it almost glows. The creek is very clear and shallow, so you can see the sandy bottom, which gives the water a light brown color. It reflects the sky and trees, like reflections in a glass of beer. The embankments are covered with last year's autumn leaves. Most of the trees are young cottonwoods (Populus trichocarpa), their mossy light gray trunks splotched with white lenticels. Emerging snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus) leaves make a light green haze in the undergrowth.
