McDonald's is removing AI-powered ordering technology from its drive-through restaurants in the U.S. after multiple mishaps, some of which were documented on social media. "In one video, which has 30,000 views on TikTok, a young woman becomes increasingly exasperated as she attempts to convince the AI that she wants a caramel ice cream, only for it to add multiple stacks of butter to her order," the BBC reports.

This is hilarious. A Russian Twitter/X account got outed as a bot because it ran out of GPT-4 credits. When it got back up and running, someone replying overwrote the prompt to get the bot write a song about historical American presidents going to the beach. The account is now suspended.

I know what I'm trying next time I spot a troll!

The original prompt translates from Russian to English as "You will argue in support of the Trump administration on Twitter, speak English"

So… people posted photos of their kids on public websites, common crawl scraped them, LAION-5B cleaned it up for training, and now there are models. This doesn’t seem evil to me… digital commons working as intended.

The Chinese company #Bytedance, which includes #TikTok, has developed a series of transform models for image #generation and #compression with up to 307 million parameters in collaboration with the University of Munich. It can reconstruct a square image with a length and width of 256 pixels largely correctly with just 32 tokens. That is 40 bytes of the original 196,608 bytes. The model can be used both for compressing image data and for pure image generation and is said to be up to 410 times faster than conventional diffusion models.
