Some of my favourite moments on camera with the nordlys are not with the fjords or the forests, but just shooting directly up to the sky above us and marvelling at the formations and elegance of these aurora bands.

The first night we shot auroras around the cabins, and got to grips with our camera gear in the cold conditions. Everyone did well. The second night we went harder, and ventured into the forest on a quiet little trail.

Under the moonlight we captured the fresh snow and frost that blanketed everything in white. And then the nordlys arrived! We kept going for about 3 hours, and Shellie served up hot drinks to keep us warm.

This is a macro photo of some moss I took on a hike. I can't super remember when or where this was, somewhere in Austria. I just like holding up the macro lens up real close to something real small. You look at moss and just see this green homogenous carpet, but it's not, there's so much detail. It's a little world in itself.

An image of a young protostellar outflow called HH288 in space, as seen with JWST. Much of the background is dark black and blue, with many stars sprinkled across with different colours and brightnesses, many showing the classic eight-pointed shape that comes from the JWST optics. The Dragon Jet itself is a swath of red, orange, and yellow emission spread horizontally across the image, with at least two crossing flows. The main flow resembles a Chinese dragon, hence the name.

Last week I had the unusual pleasure of seeing an aurora borealis myself. One that even reached beyond 50ยฐN. Just before going to bed I stood at the window for minutes, trying to figure out whether I was looking at drifting clouds or already an aurora. Then it started. And it was obvious. More obvious than Iโ€™ve ever seen it here. Jacket and beanie on, and out I went. It was wonderful, ridiculously strong. I only shot a few phone photos, mostly as evidence so people would actually believe me. That was enough of an excuse to buy a tripod, which is now waiting for its first proper outing. ๐Ÿ˜„
