Bluesky enthusiasts are stating that Bluesky has ”plans” to make ATProto universal and transfer it to W3C or the like. Well, there is no evidence that Bluesky wants to give up control or the protocol is going to be widely adopted after 5 years of development so forgive me being sceptical. The story is a bit different with ActivityPub.
Woah, this is… big(?). “Jack Dorsey says he quit Bluesky because it was becoming another Twitter”

He left #Twitter, then #BlueSky, and now endorsing #Nostr… but still not the #Fediverse.

Jack Dorsey explains why he left Bluesky
The real new Twitter, Jack Dorsey argues, should be something called Nostr.Peter Kafka (Insider)
Here's a summary of the Dorsey interview so you don't have to visit that Pirate Wires site, which, tbh, skeeds me out a little:
• Dorsey's left #Bluesky.
• Graber hustled to insulate BS from Musk before the #Twitter sale.
• Dorsey faults Graber for introducing moderation.
• Dorsey: "This is not a protocol that's truly decentralized. It's another app."
• He's going all in on #Nostr.
• A whole bunch of other gossip about Twitter that, honestly, stopped being relevant a year-and-a-half ago.
The Fediverse is emerging as a hub for the wider social web.
You can see our thoughts about it and what we're doing to welcome it on the thread below 👇
Jack Dorsey is furious that #Bluesky has attracted "very very common" people. He also doesn't like the idea of moderation tools facilitating the banning of racists.
All these tech billionaires are like a version of the movie Big, in which a pre-adolescent boy wakes up in the body of an aging Howard Hughes. Or Colonel Kurtz. Or a sardine.

Hallo !Friendica Support !

Dear Fedi, a poll, part 2.
Nevertheless, if you didn't know about it, you know now. Knowing what you know now, do you feel you were a BIT heavy handed regarding BridgyFed and the absolute ridiculous harassment of it's developer? And do you realize now, that there's MUCH worse things here than a bridge to BlueSky and your knowledge of ActivityPub and how it works were previously incorrect?
PS. If you don't feel that this poll applies to you. Don't answer it. I didn't expect complete parity between the polls. Just answer whichever poll you think fits your experience.
#Fedi #Fediverse #Momostr #Bridge #BridgyFed #ActivityPub #Mastodon #BlueSky #Poll #Polls
- Yes to both. (33%, 4 votes)
- Yes to heavy handed on BridgyFed but no on the 2nd (25%, 3 votes)
- No to both. (41%, 5 votes)
- No to heavy handed on BridgyFed, but Yes on 2nd (0%, 0 votes)
Ya know...I didn't think about it until now, but it's kinda wild that the BlueSky bridge was REQUIRED to be "opt-in" by a massive amount of Fedi which just runs like a normal instance runs.
However, we currently have the Momostr.pink relay that bridges to Nostr with no such "opt-in" ridiculousness and Nostr doesn't even have "deletes" at all. You post something, it's there. No going back.
I guess the....6 instances that block it felt the same as the folks that hated on the BlueSky bridge but they decided to use the actual tool they were allotted in every such case, the BLOCK button....
So, why is a Nostr, no delete, opt out bridge, more admissible than a BlueSky, normal deletes, opt out bridge?🤨
I am now more confused than ever about the mindsets of people here.
I genuinely want to know if there's a reason one should be allowed and not the other, if there is one...😬

Former CEO of Twitter wanted to build a social protocol no-one can control, like SMTP or HTTP for social media. Bluesky’s ATProto was supposed to be an open source protocol that Twitter could eventually utilize, but then Musk happened and Bluesky started taking it to the wrong direction and everything fell apart in Dorsey’s mind.
A very revealing interview. I now see even more future in W3C’s ActivityPub.

😳I just had a WEIRD as hell experience!
So I saw a post boosted to my timeline from someone who claimed to be a writer. So I googled their name cause I wanted to see their credits. Ended up seeing their BlueSky profile in the list of results, clicked on it...and my "dead" BlueSky account is blocked by them there and I'm not blocked here on my MUCH more active account..
Do people actually go out of their way to block users that don't even interact with them there? Seems kinda odd.😬
Kann ich die vielen bsky-Posts aus meiner Timeline herausfiltern+eliminieren und sie stattdessen irgendwo in die Seitenleiste packen?
Ein eigener Channel geht, löst aber die Aufgabe nicht.

So I just tried opting into #BridgyFed (https://brid.gy/mastodon/@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org).
I found it confusing. For one thing, it asks me for my Mastodon account. Though Akkoma uses Mastodon’s API, not all sites recognize this nor support it—I don’t know if BridgyFed would reject.
Secondly, it’s not clear how to opt in. I think I opted in but there was nothing to say “Congrats! People from #Bluesky can see you!”
Also, how do I receive #Bluesky posts? That’s not apparent to me.
As #Bluesky has been deliberately structured to (in effect) route all its content feeds through large corporations, wonder if that is their long term business plan?
Feels like any company that has access to a large collection of user-made data is now looking at how to sell it to AI companies.
Jack Dorsey referred to Twitter, the privately owned company that blocked links to competing social media platforms like Mastodon, as "freedom technology". What a clown.
He also deleted his account on Bluesky announced he's no longer on Bluesky's board of directors. Jack's involvement was one of the reasons I was never excited about #Bluesky, TBH.

Kurzer Nachschlag zur „Antwort auf meine Threads-Frage“

So, at the 29 minute mark, Ryan talks about how Mastodon's search discoverability feature is currently opt-in and there's only 5-6% of people currently opting-in. That's a wild statistic!😬 3/?

Ryan made a pretty good point around the 16 minute mark about how Threads wasn't told to make their federation "opt-in" from the Fediverse side and that people feel differently about bridges for some reason.
Even though, they're the same thing, in most ways. 2/?

#Bluesky bridging is finally happening! Only opt-in, though, so make sure to follow @bsky.brid.gy if you want your posts to show up there.
@snarfed.org, any chance you'd consider implementing FEP-fffd (https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/fffd/fep-fffd.md) on brid.gy? This was one of the primary use cases for it.
We can now connect to #BlueSky accounts from here, but both sides need to enable it.
We're supposed to be opt-out folks, but too many "safety" advocates are stopping the #SocialWeb from ever becoming ubiquitous. Imagine being so scared of "bad" speech that you demand users and server admins add each other's domain to their settings before they could communicate or even browse to those sites. We'd all still be on AOL.
Thank you @snarfed.org.
In the latest episode of #DotSocial I interview @snarfed.org, a passionate bridge builder with a focus on connecting people across the open web and the #fediverse. His latest work, #BridgyFed, connects #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol resulting in excitement, critique and *lots* of discussion.
Ryan and I talk about the parallel communities on #Mastodon and #Bluesky, their shared desire to create an open social web and the pros and cons of their underlying protocols, #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol. Can or should these be bridged? If so, how? As whole new communities continue to join the fediverse, how should the user experience evolve?
Listen to this excellent discussion on our @PeerTube instance or wherever you get your #podcasts.

Well, no matter how much will it make you mad (it will make you mad), looks like according to this Bluesky post below, Mastodon isn't trans-friendly.
(While the author doesn't says it directly, they are saying that Mastodon's community is racist to black transgender people.....have no words how double-stupid that is)
