Hey #fediverse fans!
I recently added some new links to jointhefediverse.net/join, namely:
- "Explore more platforms" (or "Learn more" for simplicity)
- "Find a community"
Could someone who speaks any of the below languages help me improve the automatic translation I used?
- ุงูุนุฑุจูุฉ
- Catalร
- ็ฎไฝไธญๆ
- ็น้ซไธญๆ
- Deutsch
- Espaรฑol
- Esperanto
- Euskara
- Franรงais
- Italiano
- Nederlands
- Polski
- Portuguรชs

- Suomi
Thank you so much! ๐
Is there a good, compact comparison of the various fediverse platforms? Calckey/Firefish (a fediverse platform that's no longer actively developed) used to have a nice chart comparing various features.
joinfediverse.wiki/Draft:Compaโฆ also exists and is a bit more in-depth than what I had in mind.
New blog post!
In which I talk about how I joined the club of Fediverse admins with my own GoToSocial instance.
As botsin.space is going down I needed a place to host my bot, and so I decided to setup my own Fedi server. In the blog post I go through the requirements and the configs required to have your own instance in the Fediverse, and also mention the cool things you can do with it.

We thought we'd start a new series letting you look behind the glass on our Communities.
Every week we look at how Community Feeds have performed to better understand what people on the Fediverse want to see and what they like to post about.
Last week, the @biodiversity Community Feed caught your attention leading to a jump in Feed followers! ๐ฆ
You can see all 62 of our Community Feeds in this thread: newsmast.social/@newsmast/1118โฆ

Iโm about to set up a small @pixelfed instance for me and a few family members. Any do/donโt for smaller instances that I should be aware of?

Did you know that if you download Vivaldi and sign into Vivaldi, you can use the same login to log into Vivaldi Social and thus Mastodon?
The Vivaldi login is used for things like sync, but also the forum and blogging service. Sync has an extra encryption password.
What this means is that for anyone using Vivaldi, getting into Mastodon is really, really easy.

For me the biggest difference after having experimented with Bluesky for the last month, with 2 years of being on the Fediverse (Mastodon primarily), is user behaviour.
Bluesky has more shitposting to put it simply. But that's what makes it feel less hostile compared to the Fediverse. It feels more like a social square.
The Fediverse has a solid range, but it skews towards news, which is important, but also dominates, drowning out more original posts.
However with Fediverse users being used to the non algorithmic nature, boosting occurs more often, not to mention active discussions on posts not made by bigger posts.
I get it when people say that they've tried Mastodon but couldn't make it work. Mastodon's greatest value, can only be found if you put in a lot of effort to find a community.
If you know a site or online service with an RSS or Atom feed, you can follow it from the Fediverse using the RSS Parrot service. Instructions for using RSS Parrot are on its website:
โก๏ธ rss-parrot.net
TL:DR: Mention the RSS feed's address in a post along with the RSS parrot account @birb
The RSS Parrot account will reply with a Fediverse account you can follow for that feed.

Do you want to know what I'm really not interested in when I'm out and about in #fediverse?
Everything that happens on Bluesky and Twitter.
sharkey setup so far:
done
- create and setup a non-admin user
- enable linger to autostart user services on systemstart
- podman network for it
- podman volumes for postgresql,valkey,sharkey
- create pod, and containers of that pod inside the user
- create a reverse-proxy-nginx entry to have access from le internet
todo
- setup podman auto updates
- finish sharkey setup
- do some form of backup
- ???
- create a MR to have this on sharkeys documentation
#feditip!
a constant annoyance on #mastodon (or any #socialmedia, this is not unique to the #fediverse) is being tagged in a long running thread you no longer want to be a part of
many times i see people asking to remove their tag from further mentions
(threads i am a part of and not a part of, this isn't about people not wanting to deal with me, i hope ๐ ๐ ๐ )
it's fine to ask
but there is an easier solution:
just remove yourself
